The mother of Yayoi, she was part of the family that lived in Shichigahama when the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami struck on March 11, 2011. After the disaster, they spent three months in temporary housing. When town officials conveyed that rebuilding in their original locations was impossible, the family made the difficult choice to return to Tokyo. This relocation separated her daughter, Yayoi, from her friends in Shichigahama.
