Description
The individual known as Decade Driver is more accurately identified as the character who uses the device of that name, the young man named Tsukasa Kadoya. He is a figure defined by lost memories and a burden of cosmic significance, acting as a nexus point for the parallel worlds that constitute his reality. Tsukasa is introduced as a twenty-year-old with a mysterious past, having no recollection of his life before he suddenly appeared in the world of the Hikari family. He lives and works in their photography studio, though his skills as a photographer are notably terrible; the pictures he takes with his beloved twin-lens reflex camera always come out distorted and unrecognizable, a fault he wryly attributes to the world and its people trying to escape from his lens.

Tsukasa’s personality is complex, often coming across as hypocritical, self-righteous, and arrogant. He carries himself with a detached and almost flippant confidence, yet this exterior masks a deeper-seated desire to connect with the world around him. His iconic declaration, often delivered as he enters a conflict, is that he is simply a passing-through Kamen Rider, a phrase that perfectly encapsulates his transient nature and his role as a traveller between universes. Despite his outward bravado, his underlying motivations are heroic. While his journey begins by becoming a traveller to save his own world from destruction, it soon becomes a quest driven by a desire to protect others and the integrity of the different realities he visits. He consistently fights for others and is willing to sacrifice his own well-being, and ultimately his life, for the sake of his companions and his mission.

Tsukasa’s central role in the story is that of a connector and a destroyer. He is forced to journey through the worlds of the nine preceding Kamen Riders to stop a catastrophic convergence of dimensions that threatens all of existence. His very existence, however, is paradoxical. He is branded as the Devil and the Destroyer of Worlds by the mysterious prophet Narutaki, a man who follows him across realities to turn other Kamen Riders against him. The tragic irony of Tsukasa’s role is later revealed to be true; before losing his memories, he was the Great Leader of Dai-Shocker, a supervillain organization aiming to conquer all dimensions. His fundamental mission is revealed to be the destruction of the other Kamen Riders and their worlds, sealing their powers into cards. This destiny places him at the heart of the Rider War, forcing him to confront the very nature of his power and his past.

His interactions with other key characters shape his development considerably. He lives with the Hikari family: the kind and resourceful young woman Natsumi, whom he affectionately nicknames "Natsumikan," and her grandfather, the unflappable studio owner who accepts the interdimensional chaos with remarkable calm. Natsumi serves as both his anchor to humanity and his moral compass, even being the one to fatally wound him to fulfill his dark destiny, an act that paradoxically restores the shattered worlds. His primary travelling companion becomes Yusuke Onodera, an alternate-reality version of Kamen Rider Kuuga, who starts as an insecure young man but grows into a true hero fighting to protect people's smiles, often acting as a foil to Tsukasa’s cynical pragmatism. A key rival and occasional ally is Daiki Kaito, Kamen Rider Diend, a treasure thief who travels the worlds for his own gain, creating a tense but effective partnership with Tsukasa. Throughout his journey, Tsukasa is constantly haunted by the premonitions of Narutaki, whose relentless hatred and accusations force Tsukasa to question his own identity and purpose.

Tsukasa’s character development is a tragic arc of acceptance. He begins his journey as an amnesiac simply trying to do the right thing by saving a world he barely understands. Over time, he uncovers the horrifying truth that he was originally a conqueror and that his true purpose is destruction. In a pivotal act of will, he chooses to embrace this role, not as a villain, but as a necessary force to reset the multiverse. His death at the hands of Natsumi as Kamen Rider Kiva-la serves as the catalyst for the rebirth of all the worlds and the people lost during the Rider War, proving that his ultimate act was one of restoration rather than annihilation. Revived by the memories of his friends, he continues to travel the dimensions, his character evolving from a lost destroyer to a guardian who ensures the balance of the multiverse. In later appearances, he takes on a role as a mentor and a trickster figure, testing and guiding new heroes like Sougo Tokiwa, the future Kamen Rider Zi-O, to ensure they do not repeat his own dark history. His journey transforms him from a man shaped by a terrible destiny to one who actively chooses to use his power for a greater good.

His notable abilities are vast, all centering on his transformation device, the DecaDriver belt, and his collection of Rider Cards. As Kamen Rider Decade, his base form is distinguished by a magenta colour scheme and the power to freely travel between worlds. His primary weapon is the Ride Booker, which can switch between a book-like form, a gun, and a sword. His core ability is to use the Kamen Ride Cards to transform his own body into any of the nine previous Heisei Kamen Riders, granting him their weapons and fighting styles. Using Attack Ride Cards, he can perform enhanced versions of their signature techniques, from creating decoys to controlling time itself. The Final Form Ride Cards allow him to transform other Kamen Riders into powerful, often oversized weapons that can be used for devastating combination attacks. His ultimate technique is the Dimension Kick, a powerful rider kick that tears through dimensional barriers. To access his true power, he uses the K-Touch, a mobile phone-like device that attaches to his belt, allowing him to assume Complete Form. In this form, he can summon the final forms of the nine Kamen Riders before him, deploying them like an army or combining their powers into a massive finishing blow. A darker, evolved state known as Violent Emotion or the "Destroyer of Worlds" form physically manifests his demonic reputation, with a more aggressive mask and the ability to use other Riders' attack abilities without needing to transform into them first. He also rides the Machine Decader, a motorcycle that can take on the form of other Riders' signature bikes, making him a solitary but supremely adaptable warrior carrying the legacy of all who came before him.
