Description
Mako Shiraishi, also known as Shinken Pink, is a member of the Samurai Sentai Shinkenger who appears in the crossover storyline between the series and Kamen Rider Decade. She is the eighteenth Shinken Pink, following in the footsteps of her mother, Kyoko Shiraishi, who was the previous Shinken Pink. As a child, Mako was raised to become a vassal of the Shiba clan and did not experience a normal childhood. Her parents moved to Hawaii without explanation, leaving her in the care of her grandmother, who instilled in her the ways of bushido. Before becoming a Shinkenger, Mako worked at a kindergarten, reflecting her deep love for children.
Mako is a strong-willed young woman who fights for her ideals. She possesses a gentle and maternal nature, often acting as an older sister figure to her teammates Chiaki and Kotoha. She can read others well, especially Takeru Shiba, the Shinken Red, and is not afraid to offer her honest opinion about a situation. Mako has a tendency to be attracted to men she feels she can "fix," which initially draws her to Ryunosuke Ikenami. Despite being a terrible cook, she persistently tries to improve in order to achieve her dream of becoming a good wife. She sometimes struggles with doubts about her responsibilities and wishes for a more ordinary life. After witnessing the tragic transformation of Dayu into a Gedoshu in a dream world, she temporarily gives up cooking to fully commit to her role as a samurai, but later regains her flexibility after advice from Hikoma Kusakabe.
Her primary motivation is to protect the world from the Gedoshu, the demonic beings from the Sanzu River. She also seeks to honor her mother's legacy and later reconnects with her parents, learning that her mother became paralyzed from the waist down due to her time as the previous Shinken Pink. This reunion strengthens her resolve to defeat the Gedoshu.
As Samurai of Sky, Mako wields the element of wind in battle. Her primary weapon is the Shinkenmaru katana, and she also uses the Heaven Fan. To transform, she uses the Shodo Phone. She possesses the Kame Origami, which she already had before receiving her Shodo Phone from Takeru. Later in her journey, she can borrow the Inromaru to become Super Shinken Pink, a white-coated form that boosts her abilities. She first achieves this form in Episode 29 of Shinkenger. Her skills include exceptional calligraphy.
In the context of Kamen Rider Decade, Mako and the other Shinkengers encounter Tsukasa Kadoya when Decade travels to their world. They team up with him to fight against the forces of Dai-Shocker. Mako later participates in the Rider War, where after being attacked by Decade, she is transported to another space and ultimately revived alongside all the Shinkengers and other Riders via the Aurora Curtain to confront the united Shocker and Zangyack forces. Her key relationships within the team include her loyalty to Takeru, her camaraderie with Ryunosuke, Chiaki, and Kotoha, and her eventual reconciliation with her mother. After the final battle against the Gedoshu, Mako moves to Hawaii to live with her parents.
