Description
Kazuma Kenzaki, who first appeared as the protagonist of his own story, returns in Kamen Rider Decade as a drastically changed individual. He is the original user of the Kamen Rider Blade system, a warrior who once fought to seal away ancient creatures known as the Undead. By the time of his appearance in Decade, he has already completed his original mission, but at a terrible personal cost.
The background for his appearance in Decade is rooted in the conclusion of his own series. To save his friend Hajime Aikawa, who was fated to destroy the world, and to protect all of humanity, Kenzaki made the ultimate sacrifice. He deliberately overused his most powerful form, King Form, which caused his own body to mutate into an Undead, specifically a Joker. This act put the apocalyptic Battle Fight into a state of perpetual stalemate, saving the world but costing Kenzaki his humanity. As a Joker, he is compelled to avoid his fellow Undead, Hajime, lest their instincts force them into a final, world-ending battle. Consequently, Kenzaki left behind everyone he knew and loved to wander alone.
This lonely existence has fundamentally altered his personality. The cheerful, hot-headed, and somewhat clumsy young man who wore his heart on his sleeve is gone. The version of Kazuma Kenzaki who appears in the World of the Rider War is cold, blunt, and merciless. He has become a calculating and ruthless individual, seemingly devoid of the passionate and straightforward nature that once defined him. He speaks little and acts with grim resolve, focused entirely on his objective without concern for the feelings of others. While a faint shadow of his original heroic nature may remain, his primary driving force appears to be a hardened determination to prevent the destruction he believes Kamen Rider Decade will cause.
His role in the story is that of an antagonist to the protagonist, Tsukasa Kadoya, the titular Kamen Rider Decade. Appearing in the fused world known as the World of the Rider War, Kenzaki confronts Tsukasa and declares that Decade's very existence is the true cause of the worlds fusing together and collapsing. He argues that the only way to save the individual Rider worlds is to eliminate Decade. To this end, he attacks Tsukasa without hesitation, transforming directly into his most powerful form, Blade King Form, and easily overpowers him. He then persuades other key figures, such as Wataru Kurenai (Kamen Rider Kiva), to join him in destroying the so-called "Destroyer of Worlds," becoming a central figure in the final Rider War.
His most significant relationship, central to his entire character, is with Hajime Aikawa, even though Hajime does not appear alongside him in Decade. Every action Kenzaki took, including sacrificing his humanity and becoming a lonely wanderer, was done to protect Hajime and allow him to live peacefully among humans. His cold demeanor in Decade is a direct consequence of this self-imposed exile. His other former allies, such as Sakuya Tachibana (Kamen Rider Garren), are also absent, highlighting the totality of his isolation. His key relationship within Decade itself is purely adversarial; he is an enemy and an ideological foil to Tsukasa Kadoya. While other Riders might fight Decade to protect their own worlds, Kenzaki fights from a position of absolute certainty, having already lost everything.
The development of this character is the tragic continuation of his original arc. Having completed a hero's journey where he learned to control his temper and fight for his friends, his ultimate act of heroism cost him his humanity and his place in the world. His appearance in Decade shows the long-term result of that choice. The once vibrant and hopeful hero has been worn down by years of isolation and the weight of his sacrifice. There is no further growth shown; rather, he is presented as a finished product of tragedy, a hero turned into a grim enforcer of his own desperate solution to save reality. He is not a villain driven by malice, but a shattered protector who sees the elimination of a perceived threat as the only remaining path.
As the former Kamen Rider Blade, Kenzaki retains all his original abilities but demonstrates a terrifying mastery over his ultimate power. His standard form is Kamen Rider Blade Ace Form, a well-balanced fighter armed with the Blay Rouzer, a sword-like weapon that can read Rouse Cards to perform various attacks or seal Undead. However, in Decade, he primarily uses his most powerful form, King Form. Accessing this form in his own series required multiple devices, but this version of Kenzaki has evolved to the point where he can transform directly into King Form using only his transformation belt, the Blay Buckle. King Form encases him in a suit of massive golden armor, greatly increasing his defensive and offensive power at the cost of agility. In this form, he wields the massive King Rouzer blade. His ultimate technique is the Royal Straight Flush, a devastating energy attack that gathers the power of the entire Spades suit. This form, which once allowed him to fight on par with the world-ending Joker Undead, now makes him a nearly unstoppable force against other Kamen Riders.
