Yasuke, born Eusebio Ibrahimo Baloi, hails from Mozambique's Yao people. He stands tall with a powerful build, locs, and light-tinted markings across his upper body, bearing a scar on his left leg. After battle, his appearance grows disheveled, marked by long, messy hair, a thick beard, and sleeveless robes in greyish-green or navy blue.
Reserved and principled, he avoids killing unless essential, guided by a "one village" belief in communal protection of children. Though preferring solitude, he shows kindness and slowly opens up during his travels with Saki. Haunted by memories, especially of Natsumaru's death, he carries deep regret yet remains fiercely loyal.
Arriving in Japan via the Nanban trade in 1579, he initially served Jesuit missionaries. Defending a child brought him to Oda Nobunaga's notice; the warlord, intrigued by his dark skin, recruited him and renamed him Yasuke for ease. At Shiga Prefecture, he bonded with fellow outsider Natsumaru, Nobunaga's female bodyguard. Their relationship deepened, though Yasuke later uncovered her secret Iga clan ties.
In 1581, Nobunaga commanded Yasuke and Natsumaru to aid Mitsuhide in demanding Iga surrender. The Iga refused to accept a woman and foreigner for a title reserved for Japanese men, forcing Yasuke to defeat their general. Discovering Natsumaru's Iga crest pendant, he confronted her during a battle against Hanzo Hattori. Confirming her betrayal as an Iga spy, he killed her—an act he profoundly regretted.
During the 1582 Honno-ji Incident, Nobunaga faced betrayal by Akechi Mitsuhide. Yasuke fought beside him until Nobunaga's seppuku, where he served as kaishakunin. He then served Nobunaga's son Nobutada until their defeat, escaping Mitsuhide's forces.
Twenty years later, Yasuke lives reclusively as a boatman named Yassan. He encounters Ichika, a singer seeking passage north for her ill daughter, Saki. Initially refusing, Yasuke relents upon recalling his principles. Mercenaries hired by Abraham attack them on the river, killing Ichika and triggering Saki's latent magic. Yasuke protects her, and they find Morisuke, a former comrade from Nobunaga's forces and now a doctor. Morisuke trains Saki, recognizing her power as a counter to the dark warlord Yami no Daimyō.
Yasuke joins Morisuke's forces against the Dark Army, led by Mitsuhide—now the Dark General under the Daimyō's sway. After defeating Mitsuhide, Yasuke and Saki infiltrate Azuchi Castle. Saki's powers disrupt the Daimyō's control, allowing Yasuke to confront her. During the battle, he experiences Iga soldier hallucinations and encounters Nobunaga's ghost, who aids him in the final confrontation.
