Description
Angel Mois is a fictional character from the anime series Keroro Gunso, also appearing in its film adaptation Chō Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō Gekishin Dragon Warriors de Arimasu! She is an alien from the Angol tribe, a race known for its destructive power and alliance with the Keronians. Her physical age by Earth standards is over two thousand years, and she stands at a height of one hundred fifty centimeters. Her very name is a reference to the prophecies of Nostradamus, linking her directly to the concept of the "King of Terror" said to descend upon Earth in July 1999. In the series, she is the daughter of the Angol tribe's leader and is herself the designated King of Terror, a title that comes with the duty of a "Planet Adjudicator." She also serves as a communications officer for the Keroro Platoon's underground base.
Mois has two distinct physical forms. Her true appearance is that of a mystical figure with pale, almost snow-white skin, silver-white hair, and yellow eyes. She wears a purple-and-white costume reminiscent of a magical girl, complete with a tall hat and a long cloak, and carries a golden staff known as the Lucifer Spear. To blend in with the inhabitants of Earth, whom the Keroro team calls Pekoponians, she adopts a different form. This disguise is based on the first human she saw, a Japanese high school student named Asami, resulting in a tanned complexion, bleached-blonde hair, and a typical school uniform. This transformation significantly altered her personality as well; due to hitting her head during her arrival on Earth, her personality shifted dramatically from a potentially aggressive demeanor to the gentle, clumsy, and sweet-natured character she is known as.
Mois was originally sent to Earth on a specific mission: to fulfill the Nostradamus prophecy by completely destroying the planet. However, she arrived too early. Lacking a clear sense of time, she decided to take a nap while in orbit around the Earth and overslept, waking up five years late, in 2004. Upon finally descending, she was taken in by the Hinata family and nursed back to health. It was then that Sergeant Keroro, at the request of the human boy Fuyuki Hinata, persuaded her to postpone her mission of destruction. She has since lived with the Keroro Platoon, becoming an integral part of their daily lives and often helping them with their failed invasion attempts.
As a character, Mois is defined by a sharp contrast between her immense power and her gentle personality. In her daily Earth form, she is sweet, clumsy, and cheerful. She has a distinct speaking habit of ending her sentences with four-character idioms or phrases, such as "天下统一" (tenka tōitsu - meaning "world domination") or "安全第一" (anzen daiichi - meaning "safety first"), but she frequently uses them incorrectly. In her spare time, she has an unusual hobby of observing active geological fault lines on Earth, an interest that stems from her original purpose of finding the most aesthetically pleasing way to split the planet in two. Her interest in Keroro is profound; she harbors a deep affection for him, stemming from an incident in her childhood when he rescued her. She addresses him as "Oji-sama," which translates roughly to "uncle," and she is unfailingly loyal, treating his every action and scheme with admiration.
Mois's relationships with the other members of the Keroro Platoon are significant. She is a close friend of Natsumi Hinata, the eldest daughter of the family, who was the first person to care for her. She is also the subject of intense jealousy from Tamama, who sees her as a rival for Keroro's attention. Perhaps most notably, she is the only being that the cynical and genius inventor Kururu is genuinely afraid of; her pure and innocent demeanor completely disarms him, making her a unique presence in the platoon. Her father is Angol Goa, the original King of Terror, and her mother is Angol Tia, a figure who is said to have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs on Earth.
In terms of abilities, Mois is arguably the most powerful character in the series. Her signature technique is the Hellmageddon, also known as the "Apocalypse Attack," a devastating ability channeled through her Lucifer Spear. The true power of this attack is enough to shatter an entire planet with ease. To prevent unnecessary destruction, she always uses a fraction of its power, calling out the output ratio, such as 1/1,000,000, to blow open a lock or destroy a building. When she reveals her true Angol form, she gains the ability to fly through space at super-high speeds, survive in the vacuum without oxygen, and withstand extreme temperatures and pressures. She possesses additional, more powerful techniques as well. The "Black Hellmageddon" destroys a planet from the inside out by collapsing its core, while the "Apocrypha Hellmageddon," performed in her more powerful and rarely seen second form, is capable of destroying entire dimensions. Her weapon, the Lucifer Spear, is normally disguised as a cell phone, which she uses to transform when needed. Despite her godlike power, she has a known weakness: the Angol Stone, a special purple crystal that can trap and immobilize her completely.
