Description
Nobunaga Oda, a powerful warlord in feudal Japan, is recognized as the first "Great Unifier," striving to end the nation's civil conflicts through military dominance and strategic alliances. He values strength and capability above traditional societal norms, disregarding conventions by appointing outsiders like Yasuke, an African warrior, to positions of authority despite vassal opposition. This pragmatic approach stems from his belief that power, not heritage or status, should determine one's role in unifying Japan.

Middle-aged, he possesses medium-length black hair tied back, a small mustache, and a beard. Intellectually curious and perceptive, he demonstrates a personal interest in Yasuke upon their first encounter, initially skeptical of the natural darkness of his skin. After confirming its authenticity, he integrates Yasuke into his service, renaming him and granting him samurai status—complete with a sword, a residence, servants, and a stipend—reflecting his willingness to embrace unconventional talents for his ambitions.

He maintains a close, almost familial bond with Yasuke, occasionally sharing meals, a privilege rarely extended to retainers, and openly referring to him as a son. He entrusts Yasuke with responsibilities like carrying his weapons and participating in critical military campaigns, including suppressing the Iga clan. His leadership involves direct mentorship, educating Yasuke on the strategic use of captured Mongol technology such as power armor mechs to emphasize innovation in warfare.

Personally, he exhibits emotional complexity through his romantic relationship with his lover, Ranmaru, and expresses disappointment in his biological son's perceived weakness, viewing it as a liability to the Oda legacy. His final moments occur during the Honno-ji Incident in 1582, when his general Akechi Mitsuhide stages a coup. Trapped and overwhelmed, he drinks heavily, laments the betrayal by his forces, and confirms Yasuke's loyalty. After ensuring Ranmaru's safety, he performs seppuku and commands Yasuke to decapitate him, entrusting him with his sword and head to deliver to his heir, underscoring his enduring trust in Yasuke amid downfall.

His legacy persists beyond death; later, his ghost appears to Yasuke during a hallucination, offering guidance during a confrontation with supernatural forces, reinforcing his lasting influence on Yasuke's journey.
