Description
Mutsuko Hoshino is a young woman from a rural area who arrives in Tokyo in 1958 to begin her first job at Suzuki Auto, a small auto repair shop in the Yuhi district. Initially disappointed because she had expected a large company, she quickly becomes an integral part of the Suzuki household. In the sequel set in spring 1959, Mutsuko has fully learned her role as an apprentice mechanic and has grown comfortable with her work and the family. She is hardworking, adaptable, and warm-hearted, easily forming bonds with those around her. She welcomes Mika, a relative's daughter who temporarily moves in, with kindness, helping the girl adjust to a simpler lifestyle. Mutsuko is also the object of affection from her childhood friend Takeo Nakayama, who studies cooking. Her key relationships include Norifumi and Tomoe Suzuki, their son Ippei, and the broader community of Third Street. Over the course of the story, she develops from a disillusioned newcomer into a capable and trusted member of both the business and the neighborhood, demonstrating resilience and a willingness to embrace change. Her notable abilities include practical mechanical skills learned on the job, as well as a natural talent for bringing warmth and stability to those around her.
