Description
Demolishor is a colossal Decepticon Constructicon who appears in the opening sequence of the live-action film Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. One of the largest Decepticons on Earth, he is known for his immense size and destructive power. In terms of origin, expanded material establishes that Demolishor was among the very first of a race of worker beings created by the AllSpark Cube in the distant past on Cybertron. These builders were designed to construct a Star Harvester, a device capable of draining energy from suns to replenish the AllSpark. At some point during the subsequent civil war on Cybertron, Demolishor allied himself with Megatron and his ancient master, The Fallen.
Regarding his personality, Demolishor is not depicted as particularly intelligent, but he possesses a crucial sense of pragmatism. His official technical specifications rate him low in intelligence and skill but extremely high in strength and endurance. He knows when to fight openly and when to retreat or hide. Upon arriving on Earth and discovering that Megatron had been destroyed following the events of the previous year, Demolishor chose to go into hiding rather than wage a futile war. He gathered and protected a small community of smaller Decepticons, acting as a formidable guardian for this group until a new leader could rise to restore the Decepticons to glory.
Demolishor's motivations are rooted in survival and a patient, loyal dedication to the Decepticon cause. He is content to wait for the return of strong leadership. This devotion is most clearly demonstrated in his final moments, where his dying declaration reveals a core belief in a prophecy: that Earth belongs to his masters, not to the Autobots or humans, and that The Fallen will rise again to claim it. Beyond this larger ideological drive, he also displays a sadistic streak, taking pleasure in causing massive collateral damage and endangering populated areas during his chases, as seen in his confrontations with the Autobot Sideswipe in South America.
In the story, Demolishor serves as the initial major threat that re-establishes the Decepticon menace. He is detected by the human-Autobot NEST team in Shanghai, China. Disguised as a massive Terex O&K RH 400 hydraulic mining excavator at a construction site, he is confronted by the team. He transforms and immediately attacks, smashing concrete pipes at soldiers and rolling onto a busy freeway. During the ensuing high-speed chase, he demonstrates his immense power and disregard for human life by crushing cars, destroying barriers, and flinging vehicles to their doom. His rampage is only stopped by the arrival of Optimus Prime, who is air-dropped into the battle. With the help of Ironhide, who shoots out one of Demolishor's giant wheels, Optimus cripples the massive Decepticon. Standing over his defeated foe, Optimus asks for any last words, to which Demolishor defiantly states that The Fallen will rise again before being destroyed by a point-blank shot to the head.
Key relationships are essential to understanding his role. He has a protector-gatherer relationship with smaller Decepticons, who hide behind his power. He is a loyal soldier to Megatron and The Fallen, a loyalty that persists even in death. He also shares a significant, antagonistic relationship with the Autobot Sideswipe; expanded comic stories reveal that Demolishor massacred a village that Sideswipe was assigned to protect on Cybertron, leading to a personal vendetta that Sideswipe seeks to fulfill. Furthermore, while he is a Constructicon, he is not typically depicted as combining to form the giant robot Devastator. That role is filled by another Constructicon who shares a similar vehicle mode, named Scavenger.
Regarding development, Demolishor undergoes little change, as his screen time is brief. However, his role is to act as a harbinger. He transitions from a patient hiding survivor to an active agent of chaos, ultimately martyring himself to deliver a prophetic warning to his enemies. His notable abilities stem from his unique and ungainly physique. He transforms into a massive excavator but in robot mode moves on a large, gyroscopic unicycle-like configuration, using two gigantic wheels to propel himself with surprising speed and dexterity. This ungainly appearance belies his ability to smash through highway bridges, swat at helicopters, and crush virtually anything in his path. He is a blunt instrument of tremendous force, capable of causing massive destruction and requiring the combined effort of multiple Autobots and NEST forces to be brought down.
