Description
Prime 2 is the informal name given to the second of the seven original Primes who appear in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. His personal name is never revealed; he is identified by his position in the order of the ancient Dynasty of Primes, ranking directly after Prima, the first Prime, and he is described as a brother of both Prima and Megatronus Prime, the Prime who later became known as the Fallen.
The Dynasty of Primes was the earliest ruling class in Cybertronian history, formed by the first seven beings to carry the title of Prime. Their role was to rule Cybertron, protect the AllSpark, and keep it powered by harvesting energy from stars with machines called Star Harvesters. The Dynasty followed a sacred rule: no star that sustained life could be depleted. In about 17,000 BC, the seven Primes arrived in Earth's solar system and found that the sun was orbited by a world inhabited by early humans. Six of the seven, including Prime 2, honored the sacred rule and refused to harvest that star. The seventh, Megatronus, insisted on building a Star Harvester on Earth anyway. When his brothers rejected his plan, he attacked them, killed many of them, and slaughtered numerous early humans, and he became known as the Fallen, the original Decepticon.
Prime 2's role in the story is defined almost entirely through this collective history. After the Fallen's rebellion, the surviving Primes used the last of their strength to hide the Matrix of Leadership, the artifact needed to activate a Star Harvester, inside a tomb formed from their own bodies on Earth. This sacrifice made them eternal guardians of the one object that could undo their brother's plan, and it is the function their legacy serves in the present-day events of the story. When Sam Witwicky later finds the Matrix, it crumbles to dust, and when he is killed by Megatron, the spirits of the six loyal Primes appear to him. They tell him they have been observing him, praise his willingness to sacrifice himself to save Optimus Prime, the last of the Primes, and declare that the Matrix is not merely found but earned. They then restore Sam to life and reconstitute the Matrix so that he can resurrect Optimus. In this way, Prime 2 and his brothers act as the story's moral authority, rewarding selflessness and guaranteeing that the line of Primes continues.
The film does not give Prime 2 an individual personality, and he never speaks as a distinct character.
