Description
Sadao Maou, originally Satan Jacob, began as a low-class goblin tribe member in the Demon Realm. Rescued and tutored by the archangel Lailah during his recovery, he learned politics, diplomacy, and military strategy. This knowledge fueled his rise to power; he united warring demon factions through intelligence and charisma, becoming the Demon King of Ente Isla.

His invasion of Ente Isla stemmed from a survival crisis: dwindling demonic energy threatened extinction in the Demon Realm. To replenish this energy, he ordered conquests to harvest human negative emotions, granting his generals autonomy in execution. This resulted in varying destruction, particularly on the Western and Southern Continents, forging his reputation for cruelty despite his preference for minimal casualties. The attack on Emilia Justina's village, causing her father's presumed death, became a source of her enduring hatred. Maou later expressed regret for his lack of understanding of human society then.

Forced to retreat to modern Tokyo after battling Emilia, he lost his demonic powers due to Earth's lack of magic and adopted the human identity "Sadao Maou". Surviving via a part-time job at MgRonald's, he advanced to assistant shift manager and later full-time shift manager. This human existence profoundly shifted his perspective, fostering empathy, diligence, and a genuine appreciation for human society. He applied his strategic mindset to excel in customer service and corporate advancement, viewing capitalism as a model for future demonic society reform.

Physically, his demon form exceeds three meters tall with red eyes, black spiky hair, horns, bat-like wings, and goat-like hooves. In human form, he appears as an average Japanese man (173 cm tall) retaining red eyes and hair, typically dressed in budget clothing or his MgRonald's uniform. Transformations between forms vary based on magic levels, often damaging his clothes upon full reversion.

Key relationships define his development: Emilia Justina (Emi Yusa), his former enemy; their dynamic evolves from hostility to mutual respect and unresolved romantic tension as he protects her and their adopted daughter Alas Ramus. Chiho Sasaki, his human coworker, offers unwavering support and romantic interest, eventually becoming his fiancée. He acts as a doting parent to Alas Ramus, a fragment of the Sephirot Yesod, and maintains loyal bonds with his generals, particularly Shirō Ashiya (Alciel), whom he treats as family.

His powers fluctuate significantly. Initially near powerless on Earth, he temporarily regains demonic strength through ambient human negativity, using it altruistically—such as repairing Shibuya after battles—which depletes his energy. Fusing with Acieth Alla (another Yesod fragment) grants him stabilized hybrid abilities without full transformation. Ultimately, he permanently loses all powers, choosing to live as a human café owner with Chiho.
