Description
In the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen film, the character known as Doutor is a small, insect-like Decepticon who also goes by the name Scalpel. His designation is directly tied to his function, as he serves as the faction's field medic, though his methods are terrifyingly unorthodox. Doutor is notable for his exceptionally small stature compared to other Transformers, and he transforms into a dissecting microscope, a form that perfectly complements his invasive and analytical nature.

Doutor possesses a vast database of anatomical and mechanical knowledge, making him intimately familiar with the biology of most species in the galaxy. He is highly skilled at disassembling complex technological devices and life-forms to get to the root of a problem. However, his expertise does not extend to reliable reassembly; he notoriously finishes his procedures with leftover parts, a flaw that makes even other Decepticons deeply reluctant to seek his medical attention despite his official role. His personality is a blend of clinical detachment and unnerving enthusiasm for his gruesome work. He speaks with a Germanic accent, and his large, inquisitive eyes, combined with his murderous, mad scientist demeanor and a pair of detachable glasses that resemble a monocle, give him the unsettling air of a stereotypical cruel intellectual. His dialogue is often laced with morbid eagerness, as seen when he exclaims about needing a subject's brain on a table for examination.

In the story, Doutor plays a crucial support role for the Decepticon cause. He is first summoned by the Constructicons and Ravage to the depths of the Laurentian Abyss, where Megatron’s damaged body lies. After a brief examination of the fallen leader, Doutor concludes that extensive repairs are necessary and callously orders the termination of the smallest Constructicon to provide spare parts. Using these harvested components and a shard of the AllSpark retrieved by Ravage, Doutor successfully rebuilds Megatron into a more powerful and functional form, resurrecting the Decepticon commander.

Later, acting on Megatron's orders, Doutor is tasked with extracting critical information from the human Sam Witwicky, whose mind has been imprinted with knowledge from the AllSpark. At a factory near Sam’s university, Doutor uses a variety of extremely invasive and painful techniques to scan the human. He quickly deduces that Sam’s mind contains the valuable data they seek and determines that the most efficient method of retrieval is to physically remove and dissect the brain. This interrogation is violently interrupted by the arrival of Autobot reinforcements led by Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. While the film itself does not explicitly show his demise, other adaptations of the story depict Doutor being destroyed by Optimus Prime during this confrontation.

His key relationships are strictly functional and servile. He is a tool used by the Decepticon leadership, taking direct orders from Megatron without question and assisting other high-ranking Decepticons like Ravage. There is no indication of camaraderie or loyalty beyond his role as a surgeon, and his poor track record with reassembly creates a relationship of fear and avoidance with the common Decepticon soldiers who might need his services. Doutor shows no character development or change throughout the events of the film; he remains a static figure of clinical sadism, defined entirely by his function as a brilliant but terrifyingly careless medic.

His most notable abilities are his medical knowledge and his skill for disassembly. He carries a variety of tools for his work, including saws and probes, which he uses unflinchingly on both robotic and organic subjects. His small, insectoid body, equipped with six legs, makes him highly agile and able to crawl over his patients. He is also seen to have detachable glasses that form part of his head design. His transformation into a microscope allows him to be easily transported and concealed, making him a covert asset for the Decepticons until he is needed to perform his gruesome duties.
