Description
Madoka Kugimiya is a student at Mahora Academy, assigned seat number eleven in Class 2-A, later Class 3-A. She is one of the three members of the school's cheerleading club, alongside Misa Kakizaki and Sakurako Shiina, and is widely regarded as the most serious and level-headed of the trio. Her physical appearance is marked by short, dark violet hair and green eyes, and she stands at a height of 160 centimeters.

Born on March 3, 1989, and possessing AB blood type, Madoka has a personality that blends responsibility with a quiet sense of self-consciousness. She takes it upon herself to keep her more impulsive cheerleading partners, particularly Sakurako, out of trouble, though her efforts often fall short. She has a fondness for gyūdon, the beef bowl dish from the Matsuya chain, and enjoys wearing silver accessories. Her taste in music leans toward Western pop, and at one point she is a fan of Avril Lavigne. She strongly dislikes playboys, and she is mildly obsessed with her own husky voice, a trait that becomes a recurring point of personal concern. Her surname is frequently used by classmates as material for teasing nicknames, something she does not appreciate.

Madoka is motivated by a strong sense of loyalty and protectiveness, especially toward her friends. She is particularly close to Ako Izumi and actively encourages the shy girl to become more confident and to express her feelings. This protective impulse leads to a notable incident during the Live Mahora Concert when Madoka pushes Ako to confess her love to the teenage form of Negi Springfield. The confession ends up being only a request for his email address, much to Madoka's chagrin. During the school festival, Madoka develops a small crush on Kotarou in his older, teenage form, though this does not develop into a major plot point.

In terms of her role in the story, Madoka is primarily a supporting character who participates in class and school events. She takes part in the Mars vs. Mages game, where she is among the first students to be hit by the strip beams, resulting in the loss of her clothes. Later in the series, she is considered along with other candidates as a potential pactio partner for Negi and is ultimately chosen as one of his partners. In the epilogue timeline, Madoka transitions into adulthood and works as a government official in elevator customs. She also appears in the sequel series UQ Holder! as a supporting character. Madoka does not possess any magical or combat abilities of note; her significance lies in her grounded, supportive presence among the more eccentric members of her class. Her development centers on her growing confidence in supporting others and her gradual acceptance of her own quirks.
