Description
Chisame Hasegawa is a student at Mahora Academy, holding seat number twenty-five in Class 3-A. She was born on February 2, and she typically presents a cynical and antisocial exterior to her classmates, whom she often regards as irrational or peculiar. This pragmatic outlook leads her to be openly critical of the unusual circumstances surrounding her, including the fact that her homeroom teacher is a ten-year-old boy named Negi Springfield.

Despite her aversion to real-world attention and social interaction, Chisame leads a secret double life. In the privacy of her own room, she adopts the persona of Chiu, a famous and popular net idol dedicated to cosplay. This online identity allows her to seek validation and success through a computer screen, carefully controlling her image and avoiding the unpredictability of face-to-face encounters. This contrast between her reclusive true self and her vibrant online persona is a central aspect of her character.

A naturally logical and observant person, Chisame is highly skilled with computers and possesses the ability to hack into large databases with relative ease. Initially, she is disturbed by her classmates' open affection for their young teacher and is deeply skeptical of the magical world that she inadvertently discovers exists. She reluctantly becomes part of Negi's group after being exposed to these supernatural events, often serving as a voice of reason or a source of dry, critical commentary on the chaos that unfolds around her.

Chisame's role in the story evolves significantly as she forms a key relationship with Negi. He persistently encourages her to engage more with the real world, and despite her protests, she finds herself drawn into his adventures. Her logical mind proves invaluable for formulating plans, and she eventually becomes one of Negi's most trusted advisors, even taking on the role of his guardian and partner during a major story arc. Her development is marked by a growing, though often grudging, acceptance of her classmates and the magical realm, ultimately revealing that her carefully cultivated isolation is a defense mechanism for her low self-esteem.

This personal growth is complemented by her notable magical abilities. After forming a Pactio, a magical contract, with Negi, she gains the artifact known as the Sceptrum Virtuale, a heart-topped staff. This artifact grants her the power to physically enter cyberspace, effectively treating digital networks as a tangible world where she can move and manipulate data. Within this space, she is assisted by a set of virtual spirits who help her fend off viral attacks and manage information. A secondary but frequently used function of her Pactio allows her to instantly change into various cosplay outfits from her net idol repertoire. However, this powerful ability has significant limitations, being nearly useless without an internet connection and only functioning as long as the battery on her laptop holds out.
