Description
Naoto Kirihara is the elder of the Kirihara brothers and a central figure in the Night Head Genesis narrative. Born with powerful psychokinetic abilities, he and his younger brother Naoya were abandoned by their parents, who feared their supernatural gifts, and subsequently placed in a research facility where they were held for fifteen years. Upon escaping after the psychic barrier containing them collapsed, Naoto assumes the role of Naoya's protector and guardian, fiercely dedicated to keeping him safe. Personality-wise, Naoto is the more self-assured and assertive of the two brothers, possessing a fiery temper that, when provoked, often causes him to lash out with his psychokinesis, unintentionally destroying nearby objects. Despite his outwardly confident demeanor, he deeply fears the destructive potential of his own abilities and the harm they could cause. His primary motivation is to shield Naoya from danger and to navigate the outside world while coming to terms with his own power. He holds strong resentment toward Mikuriya, the head of the research center where he and his brother were imprisoned, blaming him for their stolen childhood. Naoto's key ability is psychokinesis, which allows him to move or manipulate objects with his mind; however, overusing this power exhausts him physically. He also shares a telepathic link with Naoya, enabling silent communication between the brothers. Furthermore, Naoto can use his psychokinesis to intervene in the traumatic visions that Naoya experiences, acting to prevent the suffering his brother witnesses. Throughout the story, Naoto grapples with the burden of his abilities and his protective instincts, growing as he learns to control his temper and channel his power for constructive purposes, while his bond with Naoya remains the emotional core of his character arc.
