Description
Megumi Hayashida, more widely known by his alias Rindaman or simply Rinda, is a student at Suzuran All-Boys High School and a legendary figure within its violent, faction‑ridden halls. He is a second‑year at the time of the prequel story Crows Zero, though his reputation already marks him as the most feared and awe‑inspiring fighter the school has ever seen. His nickname derives from an alternate reading of his family name Hayashida, where the first character can be pronounced as Rin, and the suffix man underscores his near‑mythical status. He is routinely called Rindaman the Murderer, an epithet earned by rumors that he has sent numerous opponents to the hospital, some even to the brink of death. No one has ever witnessed him lose a fight.

In terms of background, Hayashida is a perennial outsider at Suzuran. He refuses to join any clique, faction, or army, and he takes no part in the constant power struggles that define the school’s social order. He is often absent from class because he skips school to work, and even when he is on campus, he tends to keep to himself, loitering on the fringes and silently watching other students clash. His physical presence is instantly intimidating: he stands a full head taller than most of his peers and possesses a muscular, imposing build that makes him appear invulnerable. Because he is rarely seen and seldom speaks, most students avoid him out of sheer intimidation, and those who do not know him dismiss him as a mere bystander.

Personality‑wise, Hayashida is deeply taciturn and aloof. He is a soft‑spoken introvert who avoids crowds and shows little interest in socializing. His default expression is one of calm detachment, and he almost never initiates conflict. However, this passive demeanor belies an unwavering resolve: when someone challenges him, he accepts without hesitation and fights with full, merciless force. He does not toy with opponents or showboat; he simply overwhelms them in brutal, efficient fashion and then returns to his usual detached observation. In the manga continuity, the character Harumichi Bouya is able to provoke a more emotional, expressive side of Hayashida, but within the Crows Zero film his personality remains consistently reserved and unreadable.

His motivations are simple and unchanging. Hayashida has no desire to conquer Suzuran, to lead a faction, or to prove anything to anyone. He exists outside the school’s hierarchy and seems to derive satisfaction merely from watching the endless cycle of conflict and ambition. He does not intervene in fights unless he is personally targeted. Because of his legendary status, defeating him is seen as the ultimate mark of legitimacy for anyone who aspires to rule Suzuran. Conquerors like Genji Takiya are directed toward him as the final obstacle, but Hayashida never acknowledges this role; he treats each challenge as a transient interruption to his routine.

In the story of Crows Zero, Hayashida serves as the ultimate benchmark of strength. Early in the film, Genji Takiya is told that if he wants to make a true impression, he should first defeat Rindaman. Hayashida refuses this initial challenge outright, showing no interest in the newcomer’s ambitions. Later, after Genji has fought his way through the school’s factions and defeated the rival leader Serizawa, he again confronts Hayashida. This time, Hayashida does engage, but he also offers a cryptic philosophical remark: he states that Suzuran can never truly be conquered, because there will always be someone left to fight. His role is therefore not that of a villain or an ally, but of an immovable constant that exists to test the resolve of those who seek to dominate the school.

Key relationships are minimal. The most significant is with Genji Takiya, who sees him as a final goal and respects his strength. In the broader Crows franchise, Hayashida forms a notable connection with Harumichi Bouya, who is able to draw out an emotional response from him that no one else can, but that relationship is not developed in the Crows Zero film. He has no known friends or allies at Suzuran, nor does he display any loyalty to a particular group.

Hayashida undergoes no significant character development in Crows Zero. He begins as an indifferent, unbeatable phenomenon and ends the same way. His one moment of dialogue with Genji suggests a quiet wisdom about the nature of conflict at Suzuran, but his core remains unchanged. His notable ability is his sheer, unrivaled combat prowess, built on a combination of immense physical size, raw power, and a fighting style that leaves no room for mercy or theatrics. He is not a tactician or a leader; he is a force of nature that other students measure themselves against.
