Description
Choji Ochiai, known by his childhood nickname Cho or the legendary alias Shogun, is a central protagonist. As a boy, he was notably intelligent and self-assured, coming from a financially stable family that allowed him to attend the 1970 World Expo. He was a key member of Kenji Endo's childhood friendship group and was the one who created their symbol of friendship, a mark that would become deeply significant later in life.

In his adult years before the crisis, Cho followed a conventional path to success. He graduated from a prestigious university, secured a job at a large corporation, and thrived during Japan's bubble economy, becoming a wealthy salaryman. He enjoyed playing billiards and met his wife in a jazz bar. However, this prosperous life was shattered by a personal tragedy when his young son, Shota, died in a traffic accident after mistaking another man for his father on the street. Overwhelmed by guilt and grief for having neglected his family, Cho underwent a profound transformation. He abandoned his former life and embarked on a spiritual journey, eventually meeting an elderly man in a jungle who became his teacher. Through this rigorous training, he forged his body and mind into those of a warrior.

Following his training, Cho resurfaced in Thailand, where he performed various dangerous jobs and earned the fearsome nickname Shogun. He took direct action against the Friend's organization by destroying a factory producing the Rainbow Kid drug. It was there that he received a phone call from his old friend Kenji, summoning him back to Japan to join the fight against Friend. He returned to Tokyo, where his combat skills and resourcefulness proved invaluable to the resistance.

His role in the struggle led to his capture, and he was imprisoned in the Umihotaru concentration camp for political dissidents, where he was designated Prisoner Number 3. For over a decade, he endured captivity and planned his escape. He eventually broke out alongside a fellow prisoner and manga artist, Kakuta, and spent years searching for Kanna, Kenji's niece, to protect her. He continued to fight against Friend's global regime, even surviving an assassination attempt on Kanna in a cathedral.

In the final stages of the conflict, Cho played a critical role in the physical battle. He commandeered a giant robot built by Professor Shikishima and used it to shoot down two flying saucers, a moment that cemented his heroic legend. After the world was saved, he returned to a quiet life in Thailand, where he was still respected as Shogun by those who knew of his deeds.

Cho is defined by his transformation from a neglectful workaholic to a dedicated and powerful atoner. He serves as a steadfast Lancer to Kenji, acting as a strategic advisor rather than a primary leader, and is distinguished by his calm demeanor and sharp insights. His most notable abilities are his immense physical strength and exceptional combat prowess, particularly his skill with a staff or pipe, which he honed through years of brutal training and survival.
