Description
Kyōsuke Masaki is the founder and first legendary leader of the Midnight Angels, a biker crew originally formed with ten friends that later grew into a large and feared organization in the Shonan area. He is a pivotal figure in the background of Shonan Junai-gumi!, serving as the ultimate idol and inspiration for the main duo, Eikichi Onizuka and Ryuji Danma.

Masaki possesses a strong, quiet charisma and a clear personal philosophy. He believes the Midnight Angels are not merely a cheap bike gang or a violent mob, but rather free roadsters of Shonan who ride for the love of the road and camaraderie. His motivations are driven by a desire for freedom and a vision of brotherhood that values the spirit of riding over conquest or brutality. He is shown to be perceptive and forward-thinking, recognizing the potential in younger riders and making deliberate choices about the future of his crew.

His core role in the story is that of a foundational legend and a moral compass for the Oni-Baku. He first appears in the prequel story Bad Company, where he saves a young Onizuka and Danma from the Skull Gang and returns their stolen motorcycle, setting them on a path of admiration. As the Oni-Baku grow, Masaki becomes their idol, sharing his vision of what the Midnight Angels should represent. He establishes a close friendship with a younger Akutsu Junya, teaching him to ride with his heart, but later shifts his attention to Eikichi, seeing in him the heir he wants to pass his ideals to. This causes jealousy in Akutsu.

When the second generation Midnight Angels, under Akutsu, become the most violent gang in Kanagawa and erupt into a destructive internal conflict known as the Great Shonan War, Masaki intervenes. He is heartbroken by what his creation has become and formally declares the Midnight Angels disbanded. Later, when a third iteration threatens to rise, he asks the Oni-Baku to destroy it completely. He entrusts Eikichi with his own coat and his signature red ZII motorcycle, instructing him to wear the coat not to conquer the world, but to show love for his friends and for Shonan. He asks that the Midnight Angels never ride again.

Masaki's development is largely shown through his impact on others and his final, tragic act. After his death in a motorcycle accident on the old Odawara Highway—caused by an oil slick—he becomes a martyr and a permanent legend in the world of the story. His legacy persists, influencing other characters and appearing later as a guiding vision for Onizuka in a coma, urging him not to give up on life and to become the greatest teacher. His notable abilities are not demonstrated through direct, prolonged combat in the present timeline, but rather through his legendary status as a superior rider and a natural leader with the strength of character to command respect, inspire loyalty, and make the difficult decision to end his own legacy when it becomes corrupted.
