Description
Junya Akutsu holds the position of the second leader of the Midnight Angels, a notorious biker gang in Shonan. His background is rooted in his time as a friend and underclassman, or kohai, to the original leader, Kyousuke Masaki. A key element of his personality is a deep-seated jealousy toward Eikichi Onizuka, which stems from his perception that Onizuka received too much of Masaki's attention and admiration years prior. This resentment fuels his primary motivation: to restore the Midnight Angels to their former glory as the most powerful gang in Shonan. He demonstrates a cunning and ruthless nature, exemplified by his ability to take control of the Idaten gang and his manipulative scheme to use a young woman named Nagisa in an attempt to assassinate Ryuji Danma, which results in Nagisa suffering serious injuries instead. Notably, he has a penchant for starting fires with gasoline, a tactic that has made him a nemesis of Toshiki Kamishima from the Satsuriku Butai; the two share a violent history, as Kamishima once used the same method to inflict severe harm on Akutsu when they were both members of the second-generation Midnight Angels. In the narrative, Akutsu serves as a significant antagonist who reappears after a period of incarceration, with his plans to reclaim a legendary set of gang regalia known as the Special Attack Uniform sparking a critical conflict with Ryuji. His role evolves over time; following defeats at the hands of Onizuka and Kamishima, he later returns to assist the protagonist duo, known as the Oni-Baku, during moments of need, indicating a shift from a purely adversarial figure to a complex ally. Regarding his abilities, beyond his physical prowess as a gang leader, Akutsu is notably skilled in manipulation and is particularly dangerous for his use of petrol fires as a weapon in combat.
