Description
Kaori Etou is a supporting character in the series. She is primarily known as the wife of Kozo Etou, a demanding piano professor at Momogaoka University of Music.

Her personality stands in stark contrast to her husband's severe and coercive teaching style, for which he is known as the harisen or paper fan teacher. Unlike Kozo, who often uses physical rebukes and a forceful attitude with his students, Kaori is depicted as a light-hearted and loving woman. She provides a warm and nurturing presence within their home, serving as a gentle counterbalance to her husband’s intensity. She is often the one who takes care of the students who come to study with her husband, creating a more welcoming environment.

Her role in the story is largely supportive. She appears most notably when Megumi Noda, known as Nodame, stays at the Etou residence to train for the Maradona Piano Competition under Kozo’s guidance. During this time, Kaori helps look after Nodame, attending to her needs and managing the household to facilitate the rigorous training. In one instance, she is seen helping to prepare Nodame and ensuring she is ready to leave for the competition, demonstrating her role as a caretaker.

Key relationships define her place in the narrative. Her most significant relationship is with her husband, Kozo Etou, with whom she shares a stable and presumably affectionate marriage, as he is noted to have a beautiful wife. She also interacts directly with the main character Nodame, acting as a kind of supportive maternal figure during the young pianist’s intensive training camp. While Kozo focuses on the technical and competitive aspects of Nodame’s growth, Kaori provides the personal and domestic support.

The character does not undergo significant development or have a personal arc within the story. Her function remains consistent as the supportive spouse and a symbol of domestic warmth. Regarding notable abilities, Kaori does not possess any specific musical or professional abilities that are highlighted. Her strengths lie in her interpersonal skills, specifically her patience, kindness, and ability to care for others, which allow her to manage her difficult husband and provide comfort to his often-stressed students.
