Description
Eitaro Oka is a junior from Minato Kiyomizu's middle school who later enrolls at Yamanami High School specifically to follow Minato. He deeply admired Minato's prowess as a water polo prodigy during their junior high years, an admiration which endured beyond Minato's 203-day coma. Upon learning of Minato's awakening, Eitaro actively sought to reconnect, hoping to revive their shared involvement in water polo. However, Minato's memory loss, erasing all recollection of his water polo skills and past relationships, complicated their interaction.
Standing approximately 170 cm tall, Eitaro has dark brown, messy hair, golden-yellow eyes, and typically wears black rectangular glasses, often appearing expressionless. Personality-wise, he exhibits persistence and outgoing behavior, particularly in his efforts to recruit Minato for Yamanami's water polo team. This determination led him to track down Minato's high school choice, apply there himself, and repeatedly encourage Minato to rejoin the sport, sometimes chasing him alongside team captain Jo Jojima.
His profound admiration for Minato initially prompted Eitaro to manipulate situations for his own goals. Realizing Minato retained no memory of water polo, Eitaro fabricated a closer past relationship between them than actually existed. He painted an idealized version of Minato's abilities, hoping to reignite the former champion's passion. However, witnessing Minato struggle physically and mentally without his prior skills deeply upset Eitaro. This disappointment culminated in him considering quitting the water polo club, disillusioned by the gap between his expectations and Minato's current reality.
Eitaro's perspective shifted after Minato directly addressed their situation, clarifying that his past successes stemmed from hard work, not innate genius. This honest conversation prompted Eitaro to recommit to the team and support Minato's renewed efforts. Later, when Minato faced motivational challenges after comparing himself unfavorably to his past self and Shogakukan High's current ace, Eitaro took the initiative to persuade him to return to the club, demonstrating his continued investment in Minato's journey.
His name, Eitaro, bears Japanese characters signifying "excellent" (英), "thick/big/great" (太), and "son" (郎), while his surname, Oka, translates to "ridge" or "hill" (岡).
