Live action TV
Description
Egate Mcleod Higaki is a character created for the 2006 live-action film adaptation of The Prince of Tennis and does not appear in the original anime television series or manga. He is introduced as a member of the Hyotei Gakuen tennis team, replacing the established character Wakashi Hiyoshi for the film's narrative.

As a player, Egate is known for his aggressive and violent style on the court, which stands in stark contrast to the more technical and disciplined players typically seen in the series. His primary role in the story is to serve as a unique final rival for protagonist Echizen Ryoma during the team's match against Hyotei. To streamline the plot, the film combines elements of several of Ryoma's rivals from the source material into this single character. His presence is also tied to his younger sister, Shioin Higaki, a film-original character who takes on the role of Ryoma’s primary female acquaintance, similar to Sakuno Ryuzaki from the original story.

The character’s personality is defined by an irritable and taunting demeanor, which he uses to provoke his opponents. His motivations and background are briefly explored during his match with Ryoma, where his relationship with his sister is revealed to provide context for his aggressive attitude. Egate's significant role in the film's climax leads to a match that becomes a grueling test of physical and mental endurance rather than a display of refined tennis techniques, pushing Ryoma to his limits in a way that differs from his canonical rivalries. This confrontation is used as a catalyst to solidify Ryoma's determination to compete for his team in Japan. While his creation gave the film a distinct antagonist, critical reception noted that, like many characters in the adaptation, Egate lacked the depth found in the original series.
