Description
Koomori, known to the detectives as the Bat, is a mysterious hacker whose real name is Kiyoko. She is characterized by her reclusive lifestyle as a hikikomori, living entirely within her home and interacting with the world primarily through her computer. This isolated existence has honed her skills as a computer hacker, making her a uniquely capable individual in the digital space, yet profoundly detached from society. Her personality is defined by a sharp, analytical intelligence and a compelling desire to understand the wave of suicides that has gripped Japan. Though she avoids direct social contact, she is motivated by a sense of responsibility to use her findings to aid the police investigation. In the story, her role is that of a crucial informant. She provides the police, specifically Detectives Kuroda and Shibusawa, with their first real lead: a website that displays red and white dots corresponding to the exact number of recent suicides, notably updating before the deaths become public knowledge. This discovery fundamentally shifts the investigation from looking for a pattern to looking for a source. Her relationship with the police is one of distant, cautious collaboration. She trusts them with information but preserves her anonymity. Her greatest antagonistic relationship is with Genesis, into whose clutches she falls while pursuing deeper knowledge of the suicide network. Her character undergoes a significant transition from a detached digital observer to a direct victim of the physical violence at the heart of the narrative. Her capture does not break her spirit; she continues to feed information to the authorities even from captivity, demonstrating a resilience that contrasts sharply with her withdrawn lifestyle. Koomori's primary ability is her exceptional talent for computer hacking and data analysis, which allows her to uncover the secret website and track the suicide epidemic in real time. Her story arc highlights the vulnerability of isolation and the unexpected courage that can emerge from it.
