Description
Misuzu Fuyuta is a female third-grade student in the same class as Momoko Sakura, the main character of Chibi Maruko-chan. She is often addressed by her classmates as Fuyuta-san. Her appearance is distinctive: she has very short, naturally curly hair, thick lips, and a broad face that some compare to a large Buddha statue. She typically wears a green collared shirt and a yellow skirt with polka dots. Her voice has a dreamy, fairy-tale quality that contrasts with her plain features, and she sometimes shows sharp teeth when she becomes emotional.

Fuyuta-san has a gentle and kind disposition, but she is also quite absent-minded and often fails to read the social atmosphere. She can unintentionally intrude on others’ personal space or say things that make the mood awkward. When she faces difficulties or misunderstandings, she tends to cry easily. Despite her sometimes clumsy social behavior, she is not malicious and is generally well-meaning.

Her primary motivation is her romantic heart. She is a very romantic girl who develops strong crushes on boys in her class. Initially, she is infatuated with the athletic and popular Ono, but over time her affection shifts to the quieter, more reserved Fujiki. In some versions of the story, she admits that she likes Ono but likes Fujiki even more. Her feelings for Fujiki cause her to act in especially dreamy ways, and she is known to daydream about romantic scenarios. She sometimes gives Fujiki uncomfortable attention, which he tries to avoid because he himself likes another classmate, Sasayama.

Within the story, Fuyuta-san appears as a recurring supporting character among Maruko’s classmates. She is close friends with Migiwa, another romantic girl, and the two often share their sentimental fantasies. She also belongs to the informal after-school group that includes Maruko, Tamae, and others. Her tendency to be oblivious and overly romantic provides a source of gentle humor in episodes, as her actions often lead to misunderstandings or awkward moments.

Relationships are central to her character. Her best friend is Migiwa, with whom she bonds over their shared love of romance and girly things. She has an amiable but somewhat distant relationship with Maruko, who finds Fuyuta-san a bit hard to handle because of her lack of tact. She is generally respectful toward her classmates, though in the anime she can be strict with Fujiki, while in the four-panel manga she becomes enamored with him after seeing him ice skate. She also has a past crush on Ono, but that fades as her interest in Fujiki grows.

In terms of character development, Fuyuta-san remains fairly consistent throughout the series. Her romantic interests shift from Ono to Fujiki, but her core personality as a gentle, romantic, and socially oblivious girl does not change profoundly. She does not undergo dramatic arcs; instead, she appears in various episodes where her romantic daydreams or social missteps drive small conflicts or comic moments. She does not have any special abilities or talents that set her apart, but she is known for her vivid romantic imagination and her tendency to get emotional easily. Her favorite foods include yogurt, cookies, and ohagi, a type of sweet bean paste rice cake.
