Description
Bobby Bolivia, whose full name is Robert Bolivia, is a human character from the live-action film continuity. He is the owner and operator of a unique business called Bolivia's Finest Quality Used Cars and Petting Zoo. His background is that of a stereotypical used car salesman, complete with a tacky wardrobe that favors Hawaiian shirts and sporty hats. He presents himself as an always smiling, overly friendly, and back-slapping individual with a smooth-talking manner. His personality is characterized by his fast-talking, exaggerated sales pitch, which he delivers with relentless enthusiasm. He famously lives by a personal philosophy that he shares with potential customers: a driver does not choose the car, but rather the car chooses the driver, describing it as a mystical bond between man and machine.

Bobby's primary motivation in his brief appearance is to make a sale. He is not particularly concerned with the details or legality of his inventory, as he is perfectly willing to sell a car that mysteriously appears on his lot without the proper paperwork or records. His favorite types of cars are those that come from Alabama. In his role in the story, Bobby serves as the used car dealer from whom the protagonist, Sam Witwicky, purchases his first vehicle. Despite Sam's initial reluctance about the lot, Bobby facilitates the sale of a beat-up 1976 Camaro for four thousand dollars, unknowingly selling the Autobot Bumblebee to the boy. The sale only goes through after a mysterious high-pitched noise shatters the windows of every other car on the lot.

Regarding key relationships, Bobby has a notably strained relationship with his mother, who lives within sight of his car dealership. The nature of their conflict is unknown, but their dynamic is illustrated by her flipping him off from a distance, to which he responds by wishing he had a rock to bust her head with. He also employs a mechanic named Manny, whom he instructs to remove a heat-stroke-afflicted clown from the sidewalk. The character does not undergo any significant development, as he appears in a single pivotal scene. His role in alternate adaptations, such as the console video game Transformers the Game, is limited to a voice cameo, and his car lot is later destroyed in that version of events. Bobby Bolivia's notable abilities include his gift for gab and his smooth-talking salesmanship, which allows him to spin absurd stories and justifications to make a sale. He is also unafraid to sell cars with questionable origins, and his memorable catchphrase about cars choosing their drivers has become a signature aspect of his character.
