ONA
Description
Leviathan is a demon and one of the main characters in Obey Me!. He is the third-oldest of seven demon brothers and serves as the Avatar of Envy. He was originally an angel before falling to the Devildom. Physically, he has short indigo hair styled in a bowl cut with longer bangs swept to one side, orange eyes with a purplish gradient, and very pale skin. His demon form includes aquatic features such as coral-like antlers and a scaled tail. He is also known as the Admiral of Hell's Navy.
Leviathan's personality is defined by introversion, shyness, and deep-seated insecurity. He suffers from crippling social anxiety and low self-esteem, often referring to himself as a worthless otaku. He is a full-time otaku who spends nearly all his free time watching anime, reading manga, engaging with online communities, and playing video games. He dislikes normies and prefers to stay in his room, avoiding social gatherings whenever possible. He has a tendency to feel that situations are unfair and frequently compares himself to others negatively, which aligns with his role as the Avatar of Envy. Despite his gloomy exterior, he has a sincere and passionate enthusiasm when discussing his interests, and he can be tsundere, becoming flustered or embarrassed when shown affection.
His motivations are largely driven by a desire for validation and connection. He craves acceptance but is convinced that no one would genuinely enjoy his company. This creates a self-perpetuating cycle of isolation and envy. His goldfish, named Henry 2.0, is considered his only friend at the start of the narrative.
In the story, Leviathan is one of the main love interests and a member of the student body at RAD, a school for demons. He is initially dismissive of the player character, assuming they are a normie who would not understand him. Over time, through persistent friendship and affection, he slowly opens up. His character arc involves confronting his feelings of inferiority and learning to accept himself and others. He develops from a sardonic, reclusive loner into a more integrated member of the demon household, though he often struggles late into the story to believe that anyone could genuinely be romantically interested in him.
Key relationships include his complicated dynamic with his brothers. He has a notable rivalry with Belphegor, the Avatar of Sloth, which highlights his jealous tendencies. His interactions with Mammon, the Avatar of Greed, often provide comic relief. His bond with the player character is central to his development, helping him overcome his insecurities and appreciate his own worth.
As the Avatar of Envy, Leviathan can harness waves of negative emotions related to jealousy, using them to influence his surroundings and manipulate opponents. This power also grants him abilities geared toward strategy and manipulation rather than raw strength. He possesses the power to start the apocalypse and can summon Lotan, an enormous deep-sea creature reminiscent of Cthulhu. However, his self-doubt often holds him back from fully utilizing his potential. His gaming skills also translate into a strategic combat style. Over the course of the story, he learns to channel his emotions more effectively, gradually evolving his abilities.
Leviathan's development is marked by moments where he directly confronts his envy, such as during a gaming challenge with his brothers, which leads to personal revelation. His journey emphasizes the value of connection and self-acceptance, making him a layered and relatable figure within the demon brotherhood.
