Description
Muchigoro is a supporting character in the anime film One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island, where he serves as a member of the Red Arrow Pirates, the crew commanded by Baron Omatsuri. In life, Muchigoro was a pirate sailing alongside Omatsuri and the rest of the Red Arrows, but the entire crew perished in a terrible storm at sea, leaving their captain as the sole survivor. After that tragedy, Omatsuri discovered the Lily Carnation, a flower with the power to reanimate the dead, and used it to bring Muchigoro and his other fallen comrades back to a semblance of life. In this revived state, Muchigoro retains the same appearance he had when alive, though he now sports a small sprout on his head, a visible mark of the Lily's influence.
Muchigoro is portrayed as a simple and highly gullible individual. He is easily deceived and believes almost anything he is told, a trait that is comically demonstrated during his interactions with Usopp, whom he trusts so completely that he is brought to tears by the Straw Hat's tall tales. Despite this naive and somewhat childish personality, Muchigoro is a loyal subordinate to Baron Omatsuri and participates willingly in the Baron's schemes.
Within the story, Muchigoro plays a role in the first of the Baron's Trials of Hell, where he oversees a challenge against the Straw Hat Pirates. The trial requires the Straw Hats to capture his giant, armor-plated goldfish named Rozalio. Muchigoro acts as the challenger on the Baron's side during this contest, but the Straw Hats ultimately succeed in defeating the trial. That night, after the defeat, Nico Robin attempts to question Muchigoro about the island and the mysterious flower she has noticed. However, before he can reveal any significant information, Muchigoro suddenly withers and dies in front of her due to the nature of his unnatural life. He is later revived again when the Lily Carnation is fed once more, but when the flower is ultimately destroyed, Muchigoro turns back into a plant root along with the rest of the revived Red Arrow Pirates, returning to the state of death from which he had been temporarily pulled.
Muchigoro's existence is entirely dependent on the Lily Carnation, meaning he has no independent will or true life of his own. He functions as a hollow echo of the person he once was, a puppet animated by Omatsuri's grief and refusal to let go of the past. His relationship with Omatsuri is that of a dear friend and crewmate whom the captain loved dearly and could not bear to lose. Muchigoro's ultimate fate is tied to that of his captain: once Omatsuri is defeated and finally accepts the loss of his crew, Muchigoro and all the other revived Red Arrows fade away for good. He does not develop as an individual character in the film, as he is not a true living person but a manifestation of Omatsuri's sorrow. He lacks any notable combat abilities beyond his role in the goldfish trial, and his most defining traits are his gullibility and his status as one of the many tragic reminders of the Baron's past.
