Description
Makoto Hikawa is a police officer serving within the SAUL division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. He is selected as the primary operator of the G3 System, a technologically advanced exoskeleton originally developed to combat unidentified life forms. Before his involvement with the G3 project, Hikawa gained recognition as the sole hero of the Akatsuki incident, a disaster in which he single-handedly rescued every passenger aboard a ship caught in a mysterious storm. This event establishes his fundamental competence and courage, though he is often described as clumsy and somewhat awkward in his everyday interactions. His personality is upright and earnest, with a strong sense of justice, yet he frequently doubts his own abilities and struggles with a lack of confidence. He is humble and hardworking, and he endures repeated setbacks in battle, often finding himself outmatched by the powerful monsters known as the Unknown. Hikawa is the first person to theorize that the Unknown are specifically targeting humans who possess supernatural powers, though his superiors frequently dismiss this insight. His motivations are rooted in a desire to protect innocent people and to prove that human determination and technology can stand against supernatural threats. Within the Special, Hikawa continues his role as the user of the upgraded G3-X armor, a more advanced and powerful version of the original G3 system that incorporates a sophisticated artificial intelligence. The G3-X system is so complex that it initially places immense strain on his body, causing him to lose control and even attack allies on one occasion. Despite these difficulties, he perseveres and eventually masters the upgraded suit through sheer will and assistance from others. His key relationships include his close partnership with Sumiko Ozawa, the genius creator of the G3 and G3-X systems, who trusts him as the sole operator. He also forms a strong bond with Shouichi Tsugami, the identity of Kamen Rider Agito, and the two become good friends. Hikawa is often teased by Shouichi, but he staunchly supports Agito as an ally of humanity long before he learns Shouichi's true identity. He collaborates with both Agito and Kamen Rider Gills during critical battles, including the final confrontation against the Overlord of Darkness. His development throughout the story is marked by a gradual shift from self-doubt to quiet confidence, as he learns to trust both his own abilities and the strength of his allies. As G3-X, he wields an arsenal of weapons including the GM-01 Scorpion handgun, the GG-02 Salamander grenade launcher, the GS-03 Destroyer sword, the GA-04 Antares grappling hook, the GX-05 Cerberus gatling gun, and the GK-06 Unicorn knife. He also operates specialized vehicles such as the Guard Chaser motorcycle and the Guard Acceler. Unlike the other Riders in the series, Hikawa possesses no innate supernatural powers; all his abilities come from the technology of the G3-X suit and his own relentless effort and training. After the defeat of the Overlord, he returns to his life as a normal police officer.
