Description
Ugallu began as a guardian spirit summoned by Mikan Hinatsuki's father to protect his family and factory. A flawed ritual, using a low-quality vessel and citrus-doused offerings, caused her to embed within Mikan instead of manifesting externally. Over time, she absorbed Mikan's mana, developing her own consciousness while retaining her core directive to protect Mikan. Isolated within Mikan's subconscious and unable to perceive the external world, Ugallu misinterpreted her purpose. She lashed out magically at anything causing Mikan distress, resulting in calamities mistakenly called a "curse." Sakura Chiyoda later contained the worst effects by altering the manifestations into comedic mishaps, though the underlying cause remained.

Trapped and isolated for years, Ugallu existed as a formless, reactive mist within Mikan's heart. Her true form solidified when Yuko Yoshida and Momo Chiyoda entered Mikan's subconscious to confront the curse's source. Using her transforming staff, Yuko provided a temporary anchor, allowing Ugallu to manifest visually as a beast-eared girl. Communication proved difficult initially due to Ugallu's limited understanding, but Momo facilitated dialogue. Confronted with the realization her protective actions harmed Mikan, Ugallu, believing she had failed her purpose, chose to vanish. Mikan intervened, expressing anger but offering forgiveness and a chance to start anew.

A collaborative effort involving Yuko, Momo, Mikan, and their friends performed a corrected summoning ritual. They procured a high-quality vessel crafted with fur from Shirosawa, an accurate magic circle, and potent mana-infused offerings prepared by Lico. This ritual extracted Ugallu from Mikan and granted her a stable physical form in the human world. Mikan declared Ugallu too complex to remain merely a familiar and tasked her with finding her own purpose, inviting her to live as part of her family at Banda Terrace. Ugallu accepted.

Adjusting to life outside Mikan proved challenging. Ugallu possesses significant physical strength, with claws capable of slicing through solid objects like countertops. Her nature as a conceptual being without a soul allows unique access to dreams and sealed spaces. She exhibits childlike simplicity, speaking in broken sentences and struggling with literacy and numeracy beyond ten, though she knows kanji related to citrus due to Mikan's influence. Eager to work and please others, she initially sought tasks from Yuko, addressing her as "Boss" due to her pivotal role in the summoning. Later, she shifted this title to Shirosawa ("Boss of Boss") after assisting at his cafe, Asura. Her attempts at jobs often encountered difficulties, like bringing wrong items during errands or causing accidental property damage.

Driven by deep-seated loyalty and a desire to be useful, Ugallu remains protective of Mikan, whom she views as a mother figure. She actively seeks a role where she can contribute meaningfully, declaring her intent to find "the job only I can do." Her energetic, straightforward nature and fierce loyalty gradually integrate her into the community, transforming her from a source of chaos into a valued companion.
