Description
Makoto Sorimachi works as a freelance wartime photographer, a profession that has taken him to conflict zones across the globe. This exposure to life-and-death situations forged a soldier-like mentality within him, making him cautious, deliberate, and deeply mistrustful of others, especially those outside his own group. He is determined and dedicated to his duty as a Gransazer, but his experiences make him slow to extend trust.
He is the leader of the Water Tribe and transforms into Sazer-Gorbion, the warrior representing the constellation Scorpio. As Sazer-Gorbion, his armor is based on a sawshark, colored in deep blue, and his fighting style balances speed with raw power. He wields the Blast Saw, a chainsaw-like blade, and his signature technique is De Storm, which generates a powerful, tsunami-like wave of water.
In the story, Makoto and his fellow Water Tribe members are drawn together on Divine Whale Island and awakened to their powers relatively late compared to the other tribes. Because they did not experience the earlier infighting among the Gransazers, they approach the conflict with a more unified and cautious perspective. Makoto initially keeps his tribe at a distance from the others, prioritizing the safety of his own comrades. Over time, however, he comes to acknowledge Tenma Kudou as the overall leader of the Gransazers, and his tribe proves their worth by activating the Water Tribe's giant mecha, Leviathan, and defeating the enemy Radia. This victory earns them full recognition as part of the team.
Makoto's key relationships are with the other Water Tribe members: Ai Uozumi, the gentle nurse who transforms into Sazer-Pisces, and Tappei Mikami, the dolphin-loving surfer who becomes Sazer-Ganz. Their bond forms the core of his loyalty. He is less close to the other tribes initially, but through battle he develops a grudging respect for them. After the final conflict, a softer side emerges: he is seen photographing street cats and taking pictures of his fellow warrior Ran Saotome, indicating a personal growth beyond his hardened wartime outlook.
His notable abilities as Sazer-Gorbion include enhanced physical attributes such as a vertical leap of twenty meters, a broad jump of one hundred and twenty meters, a punch force of ten tons, and a kick force of fifteen tons. His weapon, the Blast Saw, can be used for slashing attacks, and his De Storm finisher unleashes a destructive water-based vortex. He also pilots the Water Tribe's giant mecha, the Leviathan, when the tribe combines their powers.
