Description
Kamen Rider Ryuga is a character who appears in the Kamen Rider Ryuki Special: 13 Riders. He is the direct opponent and a dark reflection of the main protagonist, Shinji Kido, who transforms into Kamen Rider Ryuki. Ryuga is not a separate person but rather the physical embodiment of a Mirror World duplicate of Shinji Kido, created by Yui Kanzaki when she was a lonely child. Because she had met and befriended Shinji at a young age, her subconscious created a copy of him in the imaginary Mirror World as a companion. This duplicate would later grow to inhabit the identity of Kamen Rider Ryuga.

The personality of this Mirror World Shinji is the inverse of the real Shinji Kido. While the real Shinji is known for his kindness, naivety, and strong desire to end the Rider War to save lives, Kamen Rider Ryuga is cold, ruthless, and scheming. He holds no regard for the lives of other participants and is driven entirely by self-preservation and a singular goal. Ryuga is also cunning and manipulative, willing to exploit the trust and emotions of others to achieve his aims. His primary motivation is to escape the confines of the Mirror World and become a real person who can exist permanently in the real world. As a being made of mirror energy, he can only stay in the real world for a short time before he begins to disintegrate, making his quest for a permanent existence his central driving force.

In the narrative of the special, Kamen Rider Ryuga serves as a significant antagonistic force. He is briefly seen among the riders in the final battle, but his actions have dire consequences for another participant. He fatally injures Miho Kirishima, who fights as Kamen Rider Femme. Ryuga accomplishes this by first deceiving her; he saves her from Kamen Rider Ouja and allows her to mistake him for the real Shinji, whom she has come to care for. Later, he reveals his true nature and attacks her, showcasing his treachery. His ultimate plan involves merging with his real-world counterpart. By fusing with Shinji Kido, Ryuga hopes to overcome his existential weakness and survive indefinitely. This leads to a direct confrontation where the real Shinji, having rejected the merger, fights to expel him from his body, culminating in a final clash between Kamen Rider Ryuki and Kamen Rider Ryuga.

Key relationships define Kamen Rider Ryuga's role. His most important connection is with Shinji Kido, his original self, whom he views as a necessary host for his own survival. He also has a deceptive relationship with Miho Kirishima, whom he uses and then destroys. Other riders, such as Ren Akiyama (Kamen Rider Knight), momentarily mistake Ryuga's brutal actions for a change in Shinji's character, highlighting how Ryuga is a dark imitation of the hero.

Kamen Rider Ryuga is a formidable combatant, arguably one of the strongest among the 13 Riders. His appearance is nearly identical to Kamen Rider Ryuki, with the primary differences being a black color scheme replacing Ryuki's crimson, along with darker armor and a more menacing visor. As a being native to the Mirror World, he can survive there indefinitely without protection, a trait that normal humans cannot. His contracted Mirror Monster is Dragblacker, a dark-colored, evil version of Ryuki's dragon partner, Dragreder. His Rider Visor, called the Blackdragvisor, is mounted on his left arm. His abilities include the use of Advent Cards that summon various weapons, such as the Dragsaber sword from Dragblacker's tail, the Dragclaw gauntlet from the monster's head which can fire projectiles, and the Dragshield for defense. His ultimate finishing move, triggered by his Final Vent card, is the Dragon Rider Kick. For this attack, Dragblacker engulfs him in dark flames to propel him toward the enemy in a powerful flying kick. With heightened physical parameters compared to Ryuki, including a punching power of 12.5 tons and a kicking power of 22.5 tons, Kamen Rider Ryuga represents a dark and powerful reflection that the hero must overcome.
