Description
Masashi Sudou, known as Kamen Rider Scissors in the Kamen Rider Ryuki Special: 13 Riders, is a police detective working for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. His background reveals a man who initially becomes a Kamen Rider with the stated purpose of capturing the criminal Takeshi Asakura, but his true nature gradually emerges as someone who is easily seduced by the power that comes with being a Rider. After Asakura is captured, Sudou's ambition grows, and he becomes increasingly consumed by the desire to dominate the Rider Fight. He is a corrupt and manipulative individual who uses his official position as a detective to cover up his activities and to gain trust from others, all while pursuing his own ruthless goals.
In terms of personality, Sudou presents himself as a polite and gentlemanly figure on the surface, often using honorific speech and maintaining a calm demeanor. However, this exterior masks a deeply selfish and calculating nature. He is a cunning strategist who is willing to deceive and betray anyone to achieve his aims. His motivations are driven by a desire to reach the pinnacle of the Rider Fight and to survive at any cost. He believes that to survive, he must eliminate other Riders and become stronger, viewing the battle as a straightforward contest of power rather than a moral struggle.
In the story of Kamen Rider Ryuki Special: 13 Riders, Sudou plays a key role as a deceptive ally to the protagonist Shinji Kido, who becomes Kamen Rider Ryuki. When Shinji begins his quest to stop the Rider Fight and unite the Riders, he is met with distrust and hostility from most participants. Sudou approaches Shinji, offering his help and claiming to share Shinji's desire to end the fighting. Shinji, desperate for any ally, naively accepts this offer. However, Sudou is actually part of a conspiracy led by Kamen Rider Verde, along with other Riders such as Gai and Zolda, who intend to trap and eliminate Shinji. After a brief alliance in which they fight together against a Mirror Monster, Sudou reveals his betrayal, siding with the other conspirators to attack Shinji. He physically restrains Shinji and urges Gai to deliver a finishing blow, showing his willingness to kill without hesitation. This plan is interrupted by the sudden arrival of Kamen Rider Ouja, who attacks the group indiscriminately. Sudou is caught off guard and is struck by Ouja's Final Vent, the Veno Crash, which defeats him and ends his role in the Rider Fight.
Key relationships in the special highlight his deceptive nature. His primary interaction is with Shinji Kido, whom he manipulates by feigning friendship and support. He is also allied with the other conspirators, particularly Itsuro Takamizawa as Kamen Rider Verde, who orchestrates the trap. Unlike the original television series, where he has a direct rivalry with Ren Akiyama as Kamen Rider Knight and a history with the journalist Reiko Momoi, the special focuses more on his betrayal of Shinji and his subsequent downfall at the hands of Ouja. His development is minimal but significant: he transitions from a seemingly cooperative ally to an exposed antagonist, and his defeat serves as a clear example of the brutal and unforgiving nature of the Rider Fight, where deception is common and trust is a liability.
As Kamen Rider Scissors, Sudou possesses notable abilities that make him a formidable close-range combatant. He uses the Scissors Visor, a pair of shears mounted on his left forearm, which functions as both his card reader and a primary weapon. His fighting style emphasizes brute force combined with tactical thinking. He can summon the Strike Vent known as the Scissors Pincer, a large claw that enhances his grip and striking power. He also has access to the Guard Vent called Shell Defense, a shield for protection. His Final Vent, Scissors Attack, involves using his contract monster Volcancer's claws as a springboard to launch himself into a high-speed spinning aerial attack. Volcancer is a crab-like Mirror Monster that he contracts with, and while he can summon it to distract or attack opponents, he does not rely heavily on teamwork with it, often using it as a tool rather than a partner. In the special, Sudou's combat abilities are sufficient to hold his own briefly, but he is ultimately outmatched by the sudden and overwhelming assault from Kamen Rider Ouja.
