Description
Goro Yura is a character from the Kamen Rider Ryuki television special, 13 Riders. He is best known as the fiercely loyal servant and bodyguard to Shuichi Kitaoka, the original Kamen Rider Zolda. Goro is a young man of 25 years, standing out with a quiet but intense presence that complements his master's flamboyant and often cynical personality.
The bond between Goro and Kitaoka is the central pillar of his character. His unwavering loyalty stems from a deep-seated sense of debt and gratitude. In the past, Goro was Kitaoka's client in a legal case. However, the time and effort Kitaoka dedicated to defending him resulted in his own terminal illness going undiagnosed until it was too late. Consumed by guilt and a profound sense of responsibility, Goro dedicated his life to serving Kitaoka, vowing to remain by his side forever. He handles all household chores, from cooking and cleaning to giving massages, and also acts as a capable bodyguard. Although he refers to Kitaoka as "master," their relationship is far more complex than a simple master-servant dynamic; Kitaoka is one of the few people who treats Goro with genuine, friendly affection, even calling him "Goro-chan".
While completely devoted, Goro is not a blind follower. He is one of the few people capable of questioning Kitaoka's actions and can even coerce him into changing his mind when he disapproves of his behavior. He is deeply uneasy about Kitaoka's participation in the deadly Rider War, though he respects his master's autonomy enough not to demand he stop. In one notable instance, Goro's protective instincts go so far as to attempt running over the psychotic Rider Takeshi Asakura (Kamen Rider Ouja) with a car, a rash act that Kitaoka has to physically prevent. Despite his formidable appearance and serious demeanor, Goro is fundamentally kind and sincere. He forms a positive rapport with the series' protagonist, Shinji Kido, recognizing that Shinji means no harm.
In the special 13 Riders, Goro is fully aware of the Mirror World and Kitaoka's activities as Kamen Rider Zolda, often assisting him from the sidelines. His most significant role, however, unfolds after his master's death. Following Kitaoka's passing, Goro takes up his Card Deck and transforms into Kamen Rider Zolda to continue the fight. As Zolda, he inherits a powerful but cumbersome arsenal designed for long-range combat. His Contract Monster is Magnugiga, and his primary finisher is the devastating End of World, a barrage of all his combined weapons. Goro's skills as a fighter are considerable, but his inexperience compared to his late master becomes a fatal weakness. He is eventually tracked down and killed by Kamen Rider Ouja in the Mirror World. His dying thoughts are of Kitaoka, promising to buy something good to eat on the way back. In an alternate timeline created by a reset of the Rider War, Goro is brought back to life alongside Kitaoka.
