Hitomi and her group take refuge in Professor Lund's laboratory, where she uses her analytical skills to discern that the auroral patterns are a form of communication, with the lights spelling out messages like friend and where are you. This discovery reveals that the attacking Deoxys was simply searching for its counterpart.

Throughout the crisis, Hitomi demonstrates both courage and resourcefulness. She sends out her Metagross to protect the group, using its Reflect move to block attacks from Deoxys clones. When the city's power fails, she directs her Metagross to use Confusion to turn a windmill, helping to restore the energy needed to regenerate the second Deoxys, thereby resolving the conflict. Her relationship with a local boy named Tory Lund is also significant; she grows interested in his mysterious special friend, whose energy pattern she ultimately links to the aurora, helping to bridge the gap between the human characters and the Legendary Pokémon.
