Description
Hiroshi Tsukuba, also known as Sky Rider, is a young man with a deep fascination for the sky and a kind-hearted nature that drives him to help others. Before becoming a hero, he was an ordinary university student and a member of a hang-gliding club, having also studied karate under a teacher named Ryoichi Miyoshi. His life was forever changed when he witnessed the terrorist organization Neo-Shocker attempting to kidnap Professor Keitaro Shido. After Hiroshi intervened to save the professor, Neo-Shocker murdered his friends and left him critically wounded. To save his life, Professor Shido, who had been forced to work for Neo-Shocker, converted Hiroshi into a powerful cyborg. Unlike some of his predecessors who struggled with their transformation, Hiroshi embraced his new powers as a means to fight evil and protect the innocent, feeling gratitude for the opportunity to make a difference.
Throughout his battles against Neo-Shocker, Hiroshi is known for his courage and optimistic outlook, though he also experiences deep personal tragedy. He lost his family in a car accident years before becoming a cyborg, and a later discovery that his parents were still alive ended with their deaths at the hands of Neo-Shocker, a loss that marked a significant point of maturity for him. He also demonstrated a tender, parental side when he cared for a young monster named Bongo, weeping with sadness when Bongo died. In the film Kamen Rider: Hachi-nin Rider tai Ginga-oh, Hiroshi takes his place as the eighth Kamen Rider, joining forces with the seven legendary Riders who came before him. In this story, he leads the group of eight heroes in a battle against the film's primary antagonist, GingaOh. This film also marks the debut of his enhanced form, Powered Skyrider, which he achieves before the form appears in the television series.
Hiroshi holds a deep respect for the seven earlier Kamen Riders, who he looks to as his seniors and predecessors. His relationship with Kamen Rider Stronger is particularly notable, as Stronger is the one who gives him the name Skyrider to distinguish him from the other Riders and helps him train to develop a more powerful finishing technique known as the Big Revolving Sky Kick. Another key figure in his life is Genjiro Tani, an old friend of Professor Shido, who becomes his new mentor and supporter after Shido leaves Japan. Throughout the film, he fights alongside all seven of his predecessors—Kamen Riders 1, 2, V3, Riderman, X, Amazon, and Stronger—as an equal member of the team. As Skyrider, Hiroshi possesses several notable abilities that set him apart. He is the first Kamen Rider capable of true flight, using the Gravity Reduction Equipment on his Tornado belt to perform the Sailing Jump. His primary special move is the Sky Kick, a powerful diving kick, and he later enhances this into the more powerful Big Revolving Sky Kick after training with Kamen Rider Stronger. Other techniques include the Sky Punch and the Sky Drill, which allows him to bore through solid rock. He also rides a specialized motorcycle called the Skyturbo, which is equipped with jet-boosters and can perform an attack called the Rider Break. Midway through his journey, he receives a significant power-up from the seven legendary Riders, which enhances his suit and overall combat abilities.
