Description
Emperor Zero is the formidable ruler of the Garanda Empire, the secret organization that emerges as the primary antagonistic force in the second half of Kamen Rider Amazon. He makes his first appearance following the destruction of the previous evil organization, Geddon, and claims to be a descendant of the ancient Parthian Empire. His visual design reflects this grandiose self-image, as he is clad in Western-style steel armor and a helmet adorned with flame-like decorations resembling the Garanda Empire's emblem, all while wearing a flowing red cape over his left shoulder.
In terms of personality, Emperor Zero is defined by his ruthless cruelty and absolute authority. He has no tolerance for failure, often executing his own subordinates, including the Beastmen and Kurojusha agents, on the spot with his powerful lance. However, unlike the more monstrous leaders of other organizations, he possesses a certain degree of charisma and is shown to have a genuine, if twisted, care for his followers. He laments the loss of his "cute subordinates" at the hands of Amazon, suggesting a pride in his empire that extends to the troops under his command.
Emperor Zero's primary motivation is world conquest, a goal he pursues with single-minded efficiency. He learns from the mistakes of his predecessors in Geddon, who were obsessed with obtaining the Gigi Armlet from the hero, Amazon. Instead, Emperor Zero prioritizes the empire's global domination above all else, viewing Amazon merely as an obstacle to be eliminated rather than a source of power to be exploited. He orchestrates numerous terrorist operations in Japan, each designed to pave the way for the Garanda Empire's rule, and his ultimate scheme involves detonating a helium bomb capable of reducing a third of Japan to ashes.
Throughout the story, Emperor Zero serves as the primary field commander and face of the Garanda Empire. He answers to a higher, more mysterious entity known simply as the Ruler, who is later revealed to be the true leader controlling both Geddon and Garanda from the shadows. Emperor Zero acts as a decoy or body double for this true leader, a fact that only becomes apparent in the final episode. Despite this, he is directly responsible for commanding the empire's forces, deploying Beastmen to carry out terrorist attacks, and confronting Kamen Rider Amazon personally. Key relationships include his subservient devotion to the Ruler, from whom he seeks forgiveness for his failures, and his intense rivalry with Amazon, whom he considers an unforgivable nuisance for destroying so many of his Beastmen.
Emperor Zero does not undergo a significant character arc or redemption; rather, his development is defined by his escalating desperation. As Amazon thwarts his plans time and again, he becomes more aggressive and resorts to increasingly drastic measures. His final gambit is to capture Amazon directly. Using the unique properties of his lance, Blue Thunder, he successfully neutralizes the Gigi Armlet's power and takes the hero prisoner. However, this act leads to his downfall. When he attempts to forcibly remove the armlet, the Gigi Armlet merges with the Gaga Armlet in his possession, granting Amazon an unprecedented surge of power. Freed and empowered, Amazon easily overpowers the emperor, severing his right arm. In a frantic attempt to escape, Emperor Zero falls into his own booby-trapped pit, being impaled on a bed of giant spikes he had set for his enemy.
Emperor Zero is notable for his specific abilities, primarily channeled through his signature weapon, a blue longspear. From the tip of this spear, he can fire a powerful beam of sparks that has devastating effects. This beam can disintegrate matter entirely and, more critically, it can be synchronized with the Gigi Armlet on Amazon's arm. By doing so, the beam forces Amazon to fully release his stored energy, leading to a forced and violent cancellation of his transformation. This power makes Emperor Zero one of the few antagonists capable of truly negating the hero's primary defense. Physically, Emperor Zero stands at 174.0 centimeters tall and weighs 73.0 kilograms. While not a monstrous beast himself, his authority, cunning, and the unique negation ability of his lance make him a formidable final challenge for the title character.
