Description
Mogura-Juujin, also referred to simply as Mogura, is a mole-themed beastman who first appears as a monster serving the evil organization Gedon in the television series Kamen Rider Amazon. He was created as a living weapon, a mole granted human-like intelligence and size through the organization's methods. He is initially sent to eliminate the series' protagonist, Daisuke Yamamoto, and to retrieve the Gigi Armlet. However, after failing in his mission, he is punished by his master, the Ten-Faced Demon Gorgos, and left to die from exposure to sunlight, which he cannot withstand. Daisuke, taking pity on the creature, rescues him from this cruel fate. This act of compassion marks a turning point, and Mogura becomes a loyal ally.

In terms of personality, Mogura is initially portrayed as a typical henchman, but after his rescue, he reveals a timid, cautious, and somewhat cowardly nature. He is prone to worry and frequently expresses fear when danger arises, especially when the more powerful Garanda Empire appears later in the series. However, beneath this timidity lies a genuine desire to belong and a growing sense of loyalty and courage. He is curious about human society and makes an effort to understand it, for instance, asking for a radio to learn about the world. He also shows a fondness for simple pleasures and often reacts with a distinctive chirping vocalization.

Mogura's primary motivation shifts from serving Gedon to protecting his new friends. He is driven by gratitude toward Daisuke for saving his life and by the acceptance he receives from Daisuke and his human companions, Masahiko Okamura and Ritsuko Okamura. He seeks to prove his worth and repay the kindness shown to him, even though he is often afraid.

In the story, Mogura plays a unique role as the first monster in the Kamen Rider series to defect to the hero's side. He serves as a scout and intelligence gatherer, using his underground movement to spy on enemy activities and relay information to Daisuke. He also assists in escape and rescue operations by digging tunnels to free captives or create escape routes. While he rarely engages in direct combat due to his timid nature, he proves willing to fight when necessary, using his claws and underground ambushes. His most significant act comes during the Garanda Empire's assault, when he volunteers to infiltrate the enemy by pretending to betray Daisuke. His goal is to obtain a sample of a lethal mold to create an antidote. The ruse is discovered, and he is exposed to the mold. He manages to return to Daisuke with the sample before succumbing to the poison, sacrificing himself to save many lives.

His key relationships are with Daisuke Yamamoto and the Okamura siblings. Daisuke is his savior and the one who trusts him unconditionally, calling him a friend. Masahiko, in particular, becomes a close companion, giving him the nickname Mogura and helping him learn about human culture. Ritsuko also comes to accept and trust him over time. These bonds are what ultimately give him the courage to defy his former masters.

His development is substantial. He begins as an enemy, becomes a reluctant and fearful ally, and gradually grows into a genuinely brave figure who gives his life for the cause he has chosen to support. His arc is one of redemption and finding a new purpose.

His notable abilities are tied to his mole physiology. He can burrow through earth with great speed and precision, using the shovel-like claws on his forearms to dig and the smaller claws on his shoulders to push soil aside. His effective underground range is about ten meters beneath the surface. He uses this ability for transportation, reconnaissance, and creating escape tunnels. He is also physically capable in close-quarters combat, though he prefers to avoid it. His primary weakness is his sensitivity to direct sunlight, which can quickly exhaust or harm him, a trait that is exploited by his enemies and is the cause of his near-death experience early in the series.
