Description
Doctor Tetsuo Okita is a central figure in the 1973 film Kamen Rider V3 tai Destron Kaijin, serving as a physicist whose groundbreaking and dangerous discovery sets the plot in motion. He is an atomic physicist who discovers a new mineral he names Satanium, an element with terrifying properties that make it far more powerful and volatile than uranium. The film establishes that Satanium emits highly destructive radiation, capable of causing immediate and gruesome effects on living tissue, including the rapid growth of tumors and complete cellular breakdown.
In terms of personality, Dr. Okita is portrayed as a man of strong ethical conviction and scientific responsibility. Upon realizing the catastrophic potential of the mineral he has uncovered, he does not seek fame or power. Instead, he becomes deeply concerned about the danger Satanium represents if it were to be collected in large quantities. His primary motivation shifts from scientific inquiry to the prevention of a global catastrophe. This sense of duty leads him to a drastic decision: he attempts to dispose of his only sample of Satanium by throwing it overboard from a cruise ship, an act meant to ensure it can never be misused. It is during this attempt that he is intercepted and abducted by the criminal organization Destron.
Within the story, Dr. Okita's role is that of the unwilling key to the villains' scheme. Destron, seeking to accelerate their plans for world domination, kidnaps him to force him to reveal the location of the Satanium vein he originally discovered in the Shikoku mountains. His value to the narrative is twofold: first, as the target of a rescue mission by Kamen Rider V3, and second, as the source of crucial information. While imprisoned in Destron's island base, he is forced to witness the lethal effects of Satanium radiation on other prisoners, an experience that reinforces his resolve not to cooperate with his captors.
After being rescued by Shiro Kazami, the alter ego of Kamen Rider V3, Dr. Okita reveals that the secret map to the Satanium deposit is in the possession of his sister, Hiroko. This revelation shifts the focus of the conflict to protecting her from Destron's forces. However, his role is tragically cut short. During an attack by the Destron mutant Taiho Buffalo, Dr. Okita is mortally wounded. In his final moments, he shows a photograph of his sister to Shiro and begs him to protect her, making her safety his last request before succumbing to his injuries. His key relationships are therefore with his sister Hiroko, whom he loves and wishes to keep safe, and with Shiro Kazami, whom he trusts as the protector of that final wish.
Beyond his scientific expertise in atomic physics and his field work in mineralogy, which led him to Satanium, Dr. Okita does not display any martial or superhuman abilities. His significance is entirely derived from his knowledge and the moral weight of his decision to hide a world-threatening discovery rather than exploit it. His development is a tragic arc from a proactive researcher trying to right a wrong, to a captive, and finally to a victim who passes the burden of his secret on to a hero.
