Description
Professor Daidouji is a scientist who appears in the 1972 film Kamen Rider tai Shocker as the inventor of the GX Device, an artificial gravity machine. He works at a geophysical research institute, and his expertise in physics and engineering places him at the center of the story's conflict. His invention is a scientific breakthrough capable of manipulating gravitational forces on a large scale, which makes it extremely valuable to the criminal organization Shocker, an organization that intends to use the device to alter the Earth's axis, trigger a catastrophic global flood, and establish a new world under its own control.
Professor Daidouji comes across as a careful and responsible researcher. Aware that his creation could be dangerously misused, he deliberately keeps the device's core equation separate from the rest of the plans and entrusts it to his daughter for safekeeping, showing both foresight and trust in his family. When Doctor Death of Shocker confronts him at his laboratory, demands the invention, and kills his assistant in order to pressure him, the professor refuses to hand it over and manages to escape. His willingness to resist rather than surrender the secret defines him as a principled scientist who prioritizes public safety over his own personal security.
His role in the story is that of the catalyst whose invention sets the entire plot in motion. After the attack on his laboratory, the GX Device becomes the prize that Shocker desperately seeks, and his daughter becomes a target when the organization learns that she is carrying the missing equation. Throughout the film, Professor Daidouji cooperates with the two Kamen Riders and FBI agent Kazuya Taki, contributing his knowledge of the device and assisting in the effort to recover the plans and rescue his daughter from the monster Zanjioh.
His key relationships center on his family and his allies. His daughter is the person he trusts with the most important part of his work, and the protective bond between them places her at the center of the conflict. His unnamed assistant is killed during the attack on the laboratory, which reinforces the personal cost of his resistance. The Kamen Riders and Kazuya Taki become his protectors, and the resolution of the story depends on keeping both the professor's daughter and the device's secrets out of Shocker's hands.
The character experiences limited development over the course of the film, as the short runtime keeps him focused on the immediate crisis. His arc moves from the shock of the attack on his laboratory to active cooperation with the heroes, and his earlier caution about the device proves justified by Shocker's aggressive pursuit of it. His most notable ability is his scientific genius, particularly his mastery of gravitational physics as demonstrated by the invention of the GX Device. His intelligence is also shown in the precautions he takes to keep the invention from being misused, and while he is not a combatant and relies on the Kamen Riders for physical protection, his knowledge and his decision to hide the critical equation make him essential to the story's outcome.
