Description
Girugarasu, also known as Guilgaras, is a monster affiliated with the terrorist organization Shocker, appearing in the original Kamen Rider series and the film Kamen Rider tai Shocker. As a jungle crow-themed kaijin, Girugarasu was created to serve as an instrument in a sinister plan devised by the high-ranking Shocker officer, Dr. Shinigami. The core of this scheme involved using a deadly compound known as "dead man gas." The objective was to release this gas across Tokyo, which would induce murderous hatred among the populace, causing people to kill one another. Girugarasu stands approximately 176 centimeters tall and weighs 69 kilograms.

To execute this plot, Girugarasu utilizes its primary ability to transform into an unassuming crow. In this avian form, it would be placed in a pet shop, where it would sing songs. The lyrics of these songs were designed to be enticing to parents, who would purchase the singing crow for their children. Once inside a family's home, Girugarasu would revert to its true form or release from its beak the dead man gas, poisoning the residents. After completing its mission at a household, it would return to the pet shop to be sold again, perpetuating a cycle of death. Beyond the dead man gas, which has the additional effect of being able to paralyze cyborgs like Kamen Riders, Girugarasu's arsenal includes a three-bladed naginata for combat.

Girugarasu serves as an operative of Shocker, acting as a tool for Dr. Shinigami's genocidal plans. The character does not exhibit a complex personality or deep motivations beyond its function as a monster of the week, embodying the cruel and underhanded tactics typical of Shocker's plots against humanity. The narrative role of Girugarasu is to serve as a direct threat to the civilian population of Tokyo, forcing the intervention of the protagonists. The threat posed by its gas and its deceptive pet store scheme is ultimately confronted and terminated by the dual efforts of Kamen Rider 1 and Kamen Rider 2, who destroy Girugarasu with their signature technique, the Rider Double Kick. The character's development is minimal, as it is a standard monster created for a specific operation and is permanently destroyed upon its defeat. In later video game appearances, such as Kamen Rider Club and Kamen Rider: Seigi no Keifu, Girugarasu reappears as an enemy for other Kamen Riders, including V3, to fight.
