Description
Arigabari is a kaijin, or monster, from the 1972 film Kamen Rider tai Shocker. This character is a member of Shocker, the secret criminal organization that serves as the primary antagonist of the series. Arigabari is a modified human, or cyborg, created by Shocker, and his design and abilities are based on the giant anteater.

Arigabari is a formidable combatant, possessing a range of specialized physical attributes and weapons. He stands 192 centimeters tall and weighs 99 kilograms. His most distinctive natural feature is a long, extendable tongue, which he uses to inject a deadly bacteria known as the Amazon's Curse. This bacteria is a potent biological weapon; individuals without resistance will have their bodies melted by the infection. However, those who survive and develop a tolerance become mind-controlled puppets of Shocker, though they must continue to consume ants to sustain the bacteria within their systems.

In addition to this organic weapon, Arigabari is equipped with powerful artificial enhancements. His left arm features a massive steel claw with three blades. This claw, sometimes referred to as Eric Hand in contemporary children's magazines, is capable of piercing the armor of a tank and was strong enough to deflect a Rider Kick. For further offensive capability, he also wields a sword in his right hand during battle. His defensive capabilities are equally impressive, and his body is durable enough to repel a Rider Kick without sustaining damage. To support his predatory nature, Arigabari possesses enhanced sensory devices; an Ultra Ear can hear sounds from up to ten kilometers away, and a scent-based device can detect ants from one kilometer. Arigabari’s primary weakness is that he must continuously eat ants; if he stops, he cannot use his full abilities.

In the narrative of the film Kamen Rider tai Shocker, Arigabari appears as one of the many regenerated monsters in the army led by Shocker’s Great Leader, Dr. Shinigami. He is deployed alongside another monster, Dokugander, to attack the residence of Dr. Daidōji. Their mission is to capture Dr. Daidōji's daughter, Tama, who holds the secret formula for a powerful artificial gravity device known as GX. When Kamen Rider 1 arrives to protect Tama, Arigabari engages him in combat. The fight culminates with Arigabari being knocked from a high cliff, where he explodes and is destroyed.

The character's background is rooted in the Amazon River basin, from where he was brought to Japan by Shocker to serve under Colonel Zol. His actions in the television series, which precede the film's storyline, demonstrate his role as a powerful enforcer for Shocker's biological warfare plots. He was tasked with spreading the Amazon's Curse bacteria, using a young man named Izaki, who had survived the infection, as an unwitting carrier to infect an entire housing complex. During this operation, he proved to be a significant threat to Kamen Rider 2, easily injuring him and deflecting his signature attack, which forced the Rider to retreat and develop a new technique, the Rider Swirling Kick, to defeat him in their final confrontation.
