Description
Gebacondor, also referred to as the Condor Kaijin, is a monster that appears in the original Kamen Rider series. This character is a creation of the criminal organization Shocker, brought to life as a powerful new weapon following the repeated defeats of their previous monsters by Kamen Rider 1. The design of Gebacondor is based on a condor, and his body features a combination of elements from various defeated kaijin; portraits of past monsters like Man Spider and Bat Man are visible in the Shocker base where he is created, indicating that their combat data was used to construct what was meant to be Shocker's ultimate assassin.
The origins of Gebacondor involve a specific and grim requirement. Upon his initial construction, he is not immediately active but lies in a dormant, sleeping state. To awaken him, Shocker requires the blood of young women, which serves as the necessary nourishment to bring him to life. To acquire this, Shocker establishes a trap at a church, where they attack a bride and collect her blood. This blood is then poured into Gebacondor's mouth, successfully reviving the monster to the delight of the Shocker Combatmen. Once awakened, he demonstrates his abilities before immediately setting out to find more victims to satisfy his thirst for living blood.
In terms of personality, Gebacondor is portrayed as a predatory and relentless monster driven by his need for blood. His behavior is aggressive and single-minded, focused on attacking young women, particularly targeting newlywed brides. He shows little to no hesitation in his violent duties and fights with a savage ferocity, using his fangs to bite into humans and drain their blood. His loyalty lies entirely with his creators in Shocker, serving as a tool to carry out their plans without question.
Gebacondor's role in the story is that of a major obstacle for the protagonist. He is shown to be a more challenging opponent than previous kaijin, living up to his purpose of being designed to surpass Kamen Rider 1 in combat. His first confrontation with Kamen Rider ends in failure for the hero, as Gebacondor endures the Rider Kick and easily overpowers him, throwing him aside and winning their initial fight. This defeat forces Kamen Rider to retreat and re-evaluate his approach. The monster's actions drive the plot forward by directly involving the supporting characters, as he chases after Ruriko Midorikawa and Tobei Tachibana, who stage a fake wedding to lure him out. This leads to the final confrontation where Kamen Rider, using his motorcycle, the Cyclone, manages to ram into Gebacondor in mid-air, destroying him with a technique known as the Cyclone Crusher.
Gebacondor's key relationships are primarily antagonistic. His central foe is Takeshi Hongo, the alter ego of Kamen Rider 1, whom he battles twice. He also poses a direct threat to the civilian allies of Kamen Rider, such as Ruriko Midorikawa, whose blood he actively seeks during a chase scene. His connection to Shocker is that of a soldier to an army; he is a creation and servant of the organization's Great Leader and works alongside the Shocker Combatmen to carry out abductions.
Despite his destruction, the character's development continues beyond his initial defeat. Gebacondor is resurrected on multiple occasions to serve Shocker again as part of revived monster armies. He reappears in later episodes of the series as a member of the Revived Kaijin Army, where he is destroyed again by another monster's bomb, and again in a different episode to assist the kaijin Mukadelas against Kamen Rider 2, who defeats him twice with relative ease. He also makes a cameo appearance in the movie Kamen Rider vs. Shocker as part of a monster army, though he does not actively participate in the fighting there. These later appearances establish him as a recurring threat, though one that becomes less formidable over time.
Gebacondor possesses a notable set of abilities that make him a dangerous adversary. Standing at approximately 152 centimeters tall and weighing 82 kilograms, he uses the wing membranes under his arms to achieve flight and is also remarkably agile, capable of performing flips in the air. He can generate strong winds simply by flapping his wings and has the power to teleport around his general location. His body is incredibly durable, specifically designed to withstand powerful attacks like the Rider Kick. In close combat, he relies on his sharp fangs for blood-drinking and his claws, which have been described as high-frequency vibrating weapons, allowing him to launch devastating ground attacks.
