Description
Kyoko Akizuki is a supporting character in the 1987 to 1988 tokusatsu series. She is the younger sister of Nobuhiko Akizuki, which makes her the adoptive sister of the protagonist, Kotaro Minami, as the two young men were raised as brothers after Kotaro was orphaned. After Nobuhiko is kidnapped by the evil Gorgom cult and transformed into the evil warrior Shadow Moon, Kyoko and her younger sister Katsumi come to live with Kotaro, forming a new family unit with him as their guardian.

In terms of personality, Kyoko is depicted as a generally fun and adorable young girl with a bubbly and lively disposition. Despite her usually cheerful nature, she is also capable of showing genuine fear and sadness when the circumstances become dangerous, which is a frequent occurrence given Kotaro's ongoing war against the Gorgom's mutant creatures. Her primary motivation throughout the story is to support Kotaro and maintain a sense of normal family life despite the extraordinary and often terrifying events that surround them.

Kyoko's primary role in the narrative is that of a civilian support character for the hero. She, along with her sister, represents the innocent family that Kotaro fights to protect. Her presence serves to ground the hero and provide him with emotional stakes beyond his mission to rescue Nobuhiko and defeat Gorgom. One notable episode focuses directly on her, titled Kyoko's Strange Dream, indicating that she is occasionally placed in direct peril or becomes the center of a specific plot involving the monsters of the week.

The most significant relationship in Kyoko's life is with Kotaro Minami. The series portrays their bond as heartwarming, and it grows stronger as the story progresses. As her biological brother Nobuhiko descends further into villainy as Shadow Moon, her relationship with her adoptive brother Kotaro becomes even more crucial, representing the only functional family unit left. Kyoko also shares a close sisterly relationship with Katsumi Kida, the other young girl in the household, as the two of them face the trials of their situation together.

Kyoko experiences noticeable development throughout the series. As she faces the recurring threats from Gorgom and witnesses Kotaro's struggles, she matures and her relationship with him deepens. She learns to cope with the fear and sadness brought on by the constant danger, transitioning from a purely passive character into a more resilient young woman who understands the weight of Kotaro's fight. No notable abilities are attributed to Kyoko; she is an ordinary human without any combat skills or supernatural powers, which makes her status as a frequent target of the Gorgom's schemes all the more compelling.
