Description
The Darkness Ambassador, known in Japanese as Kurayami Taishi, serves as the primary antagonist of the 1984 special Jūgō Tanjō! Kamen Rider Zen'in Shūgō!!. He holds the position of supreme commander of the Badan Empire, a villainous organization that positions itself as the successor to all previous evil groups that have sought to conquer the world. A crucial element of his background is his identity as the younger brother of Ambassador Hell, a notable villain from Shocker, the original terrorist organization from the first Kamen Rider series. This familial connection fuels his personal vendetta against the heroes, as he seeks revenge against Takeshi Hongo, Kamen Rider 1, for the death of his brother. He is a maniacal and ruthless individual, hellbent on achieving his goals of world domination and wiping out his enemies. His personality is marked by cold calculation; he views all opponents as mere pawns or obstacles to be eliminated. He speaks in a formal and disdainful tone, brooking no weakness or insubordination from his subordinates. His primary motivation is the absolute control and supremacy of the Badan Empire, and he is obsessed with destroying the Kamen Riders, whom he considers his primary foes. He personally oversaw the creation of the cyborg Ryo Murasame, the man who would become Kamen Rider ZX, intending him to be a powerful asset for the empire. As a result, he views ZX with particular contempt after the hero defects and becomes a traitor. In the story, the Darkness Ambassador is the mastermind behind the Space Break System, a doomsday weapon designed to be the empire's ultimate project for annihilating Earth's cities from space. He manages the final preparations for this weapon from the Badan base, using a supply of a resource called Badancium 84 to power it. His most significant relationship is with Kamen Rider 1, the man who killed his brother, driving the Ambassador's thirst for revenge. He also has a direct relationship with Kamen Rider ZX, whom he created and now considers a personal traitor. Throughout the narrative, his role is to command the Badan forces and serve as the final obstacle for the gathered Kamen Riders. His development is limited, as he is a classic villain whose arc concludes with his destruction. In the final confrontation, he activates the Space Break System against the Kamen Riders, but they synchronize their powers with ZX, allowing the newest Rider to perform his finishing move, the ZX Kick, which destroys the Darkness Ambassador and the Badan base along with him. As a leader of an empire that uses advanced technology and cybernetics, he has the authority to command a vast army of monsters and Combat Roids, and he is capable of operating immense superweapons like the Space Break System. Notably, in the manga adaptation that followed, the character is shown to be able to transform into a horned, turban-like monster named Southern Cross after being destroyed in his humanoid form.
