Description
Go-Baberu-Da, designated by the police as Unidentified Life Form #45, is a member of the Go Group within the Gurongi, the monstrous antagonists of Kamen Rider Kuuga. His name is derived from the word buffalo, reflecting the animal nature of his monstrous form. In his human disguise, he appears as a man with long hair, a headband, and notably dark lips, exuding a rough and confident demeanor. He is considered one of the three strongest members of the Go Group, a subgroup of powerful Gurongi who have modified themselves to be able to change their form in battle, similar to Kuuga and the ultimate villain N-Daguva-Zeba.
In terms of personality, Go-Baberu-Da is characterized by his boldness and a brutal, almost arrogant confidence in his own immense power. He proclaims himself as the one who will bring about ultimate darkness, showing no fear or hesitation in his task. His approach to his game, or Gegeru, is not one of stealth but of direct, overwhelming force combined with a cunning strategy to maximize casualties while minimizing interference. His primary motivation, like all Gurongi participating in the Gegeru, is to fulfill a specific quota of kills within a set number of days. His target was to slaughter 682 people over four plays of his game, a goal he pursued with ruthless efficiency.
Go-Baberu-Da's role in the story is to serve as a major physical threat that pushes the hero, Yusuke Godai (Kamen Rider Kuuga), to his absolute limit. He represents a level of raw power that Kuuga struggles to overcome, even with his advanced forms. His method of hunting is distinct and terrifying; he would seal all escape routes of his chosen location, typically underground centers, ensuring his prey had nowhere to flee and that police or other interference was delayed. His key relationships are primarily antagonistic. He faces Kamen Rider Kuuga in a direct confrontation where he initially dominates the fight. His defeat is only made possible through the intervention of Kaoru Ichijo, a police detective who has become Kuuga's close ally. Ichijo uses a specially developed Muscle-Relaxing Bullet, which temporarily weakens Go-Baberu-Da and creates a critical opening for Kuuga to counterattack.
The character undergoes a brief but impactful development during his final battle. He first fights Kuuga in his balanced Grapple Form, easily withstanding Kuuga's powerful Mighty Kick. He then demonstrates his ability to transform, shifting to his Herculean Form, which enhances his already formidable strength and durability. In this form, his skin darkens, and his eyes become black. He wields a massive war hammer, transformed from his chest ornament, that is capable of piercing the armor of Kuuga's Titan Form, which had previously been thought to be nearly impervious. This display of power nearly defeats Kuuga, showcasing a significant escalation in the Gurongi threat. However, after being hit by the muscle-relaxing bullet, Go-Baberu-Da is transported by Kuuga to a demolition site where he is finished off by the combined attack of the Rising Beat Gouram, a powerful support vehicle, exploding in a massive pillar of fire.
His notable abilities center on his immense physical strength and his capacity for form change. His standard Grapple Form uses powerful punches augmented by brass knuckles, with enough force to pierce the armor of Kuuga's primary Mighty Form. His Herculean Form sacrifices speed for a dramatic increase in power and defense, wielding a devastating war hammer. This ability to change forms makes him a parallel and a direct counter to Kuuga's own fighting style, emphasizing the escalating, adaptive nature of their conflict.
