Description
Go-Bemiu-Gi is a character who appears as an antagonist in the Japanese television series Kamen Rider Kuuga. She is a member of the Gurongi, a warrior tribe that serves as the primary monsters of the series, and is specifically identified by the police task force as Unidentified Life Form Number 38. Her name is derived from the Japanese word for sea snake, umihebi, reflecting her aquatic nature.
In her human guise, Go-Bemiu-Gi appears as a young woman with straight black hair who typically wears a black cheongsam and has black lips. Her human form reflects a refined and cultured sensibility, as she has a notable appreciation for human classical music. She is particularly drawn to the music of Frédéric Chopin, with the Revolutionary Etude being a significant piece that she uses to orchestrate her violent activities. She is often seen carrying sheet music and is capable of playing the piano herself.
As a Gurongi, Go-Bemiu-Gi belongs to the Go group, which represents a high-ranking class within her society. Her motives are driven by the Gegeru, a ritualistic game of murder that members of the Gurongi participate in to prove their strength and rise in rank. When her turn to play the game arrives, she does not kill at random but instead constructs an elaborate pattern based on Chopin's Revolutionary Etude. Her planned killing spree involved attacking public swimming areas, where she would use her unique abilities to murder swimmers. The first letter of the location she attacked corresponded to a musical scale, the number of victims indicated a note's pitch, and the death of a child would raise the note by one step. Through this method, she successfully killed fifty-eight people across four different pools before the police deciphered her pattern.
Go-Bemiu-Gi possesses several distinctive abilities that make her a formidable threat, especially in aquatic environments. As her name suggests, she has the attributes of a sea snake and is highly adept at underwater combat. Her most dangerous power is her ability to generate extreme cold, with a range of minus one hundred to minus one hundred fifty degrees Celsius. Her primary weapon is a whip, which she creates by transforming an anklet she wears. When she strikes a victim with this whip, the ultra-low temperature causes the area around the heart to rapidly freeze, resulting in instant cardiac paralysis and death. The marks left on her victims were actually third-degree frostbite rather than burns.
In the story, Go-Bemiu-Gi relies on the police closing down all public swimming pools after understanding her pattern. She then alters her plan and travels to a beach to continue her Gegeru, where she finally confronts the series protagonist, Kamen Rider Kuuga. During their battle, Kuuga transforms into his Dragon Form, a blue-colored form specialized for aquatic combat. Initially, Go-Bemiu-Gi proves to be a serious threat, as her freezing whip is able to completely encase and shatter Kuuga's Dragon Rod weapon. However, Kuuga then assumes his more powerful Rising Dragon Form. Using the enhanced Rising Dragon Rod, he executes his finishing technique, the Rising Dragon Splash, which impales Go-Bemiu-Gi and hurls her into the sea, where she explodes.
Her role is primarily that of a powerful obstacle for the hero, representing the escalating danger posed by the higher-ranking Gurongi as the series progresses. The character also makes a reappearance in the later series Kamen Rider Decade. In the World of Kuuga within that series, she is shown overseeing the revival of a powerful Gurongi leader alongside another monster, Me-Biran-Gi, before being destroyed by the titular hero, Kamen Rider Decade.
