Description
Tono Tsumugi, a former apparel store clerk, attends a training session where the lecturer, Arima Yusuke, impresses her with his philosophy on clothing and personal styling. Inspired, she decides to leave her job and work under Arima as a personal stylist—someone who selects clothes that truly match each client's needs and life. However, when she meets Arima in person for the first time after joining his team, he turns out to be a completely different person from the inspiring lecturer she remembered: he is blunt, demanding, and far more difficult to work with than she expected.
The story follows Tsumugi as a bewildered novice navigating the real world of personal styling. Under Arima's sometimes harsh guidance, she encounters a steady stream of unique clients with diverse personal and professional challenges. Through careful listening, fashion advice, and makeup coordination, she strives to help each customer find not only a better wardrobe but also a new sense of confidence and direction in their lives. Along the way, she learns the practical skills of the trade and discovers how clothing can truly transform someone's outlook.
The narrative is set in a contemporary Japanese urban environment, centered on a small styling office run by Arima. The main cast includes Tsumugi, the earnest rookie; Arima, the experienced but prickly senior stylist; and a rotating cast of clients, such as a salaryman seeking to reinvent his professional image and other individuals struggling with self-expression or life transitions. The series covers two main arcs: the initial establishment of Tsumugi's role and her growing competence, followed by a more extended case involving a company employee named Sakura Ryotaro, who requests Tsumugi's personal counseling after attending a corporate image-consulting workshop. This second arc tests Tsumugi's ability to read a client's unspoken desires and culminates in her first major independent success. The manga concludes as Tsumugi gains confidence and fully embraces her career as a personal stylist, highlighting the theme that fashion is a form of personal magic that can help people become their best selves.
