Description
"Decagon House Murders" is a mystery manga adaptation of Yukito Ayatsuji's classic novel, illustrated by Hiro Kiyohara. The story revolves around a group of seven university students who are members of a mystery club. They travel to a remote island to spend a week at the Decagon House, a peculiar structure with a dark history. The house was previously the site of a gruesome murder-suicide involving its architect, Nakamura Seiji, who was suspected of killing his wife and servants before disappearing. The students, each using nicknames based on famous mystery writers like Ellery, Carr, and Poe, plan to enjoy their stay while discussing and solving mysteries.

Shortly after their arrival, strange and unsettling events begin to unfold. The group discovers a series of cryptic messages and ominous warnings, hinting at a connection to the island's tragic past. As tensions rise, one of the students is found dead under mysterious circumstances, followed by another. The deaths mirror the events of the previous murders, suggesting that the killer may still be on the island—or among them. The survivors must unravel the clues and uncover the truth before they become the next victims.

The narrative alternates between the events on the island and the mainland, where a former member of the mystery club, Kawaminami, investigates the original murders. Kawaminami becomes convinced that Nakamura Seiji, presumed dead, may still be alive and orchestrating the killings. His investigation intersects with the unfolding tragedy on the island, revealing a complex web of motives, secrets, and betrayals.

The characters are defined by their relationships to the mystery club and their individual personalities, which are gradually revealed as the story progresses. The tension builds as paranoia and suspicion grow among the group, with each member questioning the others' trustworthiness. The manga meticulously layers clues and red herrings, challenging readers to piece together the mystery alongside the characters.

"Decagon House Murders" is a tightly plotted, atmospheric mystery that pays homage to classic whodunit tropes while delivering a modern and engaging narrative. Its focus on logical deduction, intricate plotting, and psychological tension makes it a compelling read for fans of the genre.
