Description
Omokage Lucky Hole is a Japanese musical group whose career spans from the mid-1990s to the present day. The band is known for its distinctive fusion of funk, soul, R&B, and Showa-era kayokyoku (Japanese pop and popular music from the Showa period). Formed in 1994, the core members are vocalist ACKY and bassist Sinner-Yang, who is also known as Daizawa Goro. The band's name is occasionally written in English as Only Love Hurts, preserving the initials OLH.

The group's musical identity is characterized by high-quality, soul-based arrangements that contrast sharply with their lyrical content. While the music often draws from funk and classic Japanese pop, the lyrics are notable for their dark, cynical, and explicit stories exploring the underside of life, including topics such as the liquor trade, prostitution, and personal failure. This combination of catchy melodies and intense, often sexually charged or morbid narratives is a hallmark of their work.

Omokage Lucky Hole released their major-label debut album, Dairi-Haha (A Surrogate Mother), in 1998. This album established their signature sound and included many songs that would become staples of their live performances, such as Konya, Sugamo De (Tonight, in Sugamo) and Ore no sei de Koshien ni Ikenakatta (It's All My Fault We Couldn't Go to Koshien). Other notable albums include Whydunit? and Typical Affair, the latter of which was released in 2011. A greatest hits compilation titled Greatest Hits!! Updated Omokage Lucky Hole was released by P-Vine Records in 2015.

Within the anime industry, Omokage Lucky Hole is primarily known for a single, significant credit. The band performed the opening theme song for the 2009 television anime series Natsu no Arashi! (Summer Storm!). The song is titled Atashi dake ni kakete. The single was released on May 13, 2009, by King Records, and features the B-side track So-So-I-De. The song is noted for its energetic, funky, and blues-influenced pop sound, which complements the quirky and original tone of the anime. This track was later included on their 2011 album Typical Affair.

The band has a reputation for infrequent live performances, often holding only one concert per year. Their shows are known for their intimate, high-energy atmosphere and the darkly humorous banter of frontman ACKY, who often discusses themes of mortality and the aging of the band and its fans. The lineup has seen changes over the decades, with members including keyboardist Sonegawa Akio (Sone-chan), guitarist Tecchan (later Hiromu), and saxophonists Kaori and Yui. Despite their niche status, the band has maintained a dedicated following and is recognized for their unique, uncompromising artistic vision within the Japanese music scene.
