Description
VALSHE is a Japanese female singer and lyricist born on September 15, 1986. Her stage name originates from a Russian phrase, "Volshebnika kontsa veka" (Волшебника конца века), which appears in the film Detective Conan: The Last Wizard of the Century. This reflects a long-standing admiration for the franchise that would later define much of her mainstream success.

VALSHE began her career in 2009 on the video-sharing platform Niconico, using the name "Barushe" and performing cover versions of Vocaloid songs. She quickly became known as a "ryouseirui" artist, a term describing her ability to sing with both masculine and feminine vocal qualities. Her early uploads, including a cover of Kagamine Len's "Right Shoulder no Chou," garnered millions of views. During this period, she performed as an illustrated avatar with blonde hair and blue eyes, created by the artist Hakuseki, who remains a close visual collaborator.

Her professional debut came in March 2010 with the cover album valuable sheaves under the label 5pb.Records. Later that year, she released her first original mini-album, storyteller. In 2011, VALSHE announced her retirement from Niconico to focus on her original music career, subsequently moving to the Being Inc. label in 2013.

VALSHE is recognized for her contributions to anime and game soundtracks. Her second single, JESTER, served as the theme song for the PSP game Kannou Mukashibanashi. The single BLESSING CARD was used as the second ending theme for the anime Tanken Driland: 1000-nen no Mahō. Her most notable anime work comes from her association with Detective Conan. Her sixth single, Butterfly Core, was the franchise's 37th opening theme song. Her ninth single, Kimi e no Uso, was the 49th ending theme song for the same series. She also performed Tsuisō no Kotowari (The Logic of Recollection) for the third season of Ninja Girl & Samurai Master.

Musically, VALSHE is known for her distinct, powerful voice and a style rooted in J-pop and digital rock. Her work frequently involves long-term collaborators. The producer and fellow Niconico user minato (also known as Tourai or RyuuseiP) has been a central figure in her career, contributing to the composition and arrangement of many of her songs. The Vocaloid composer doriko has also been involved in her projects. Her early professional singles, including REVOLT e.p. and JESTER, feature songwriting by minato alongside VALSHE herself. Her first full-length original album, PLAY THE JOKER, was released in February 2012.

VALSHE has maintained a degree of visual anonymity, rarely showing her face in promotional materials. Her first public appearance revealing her own image was on the cover of her sixth single, Butterfly Core, in November 2013. That same year, she held her first live concert, LIVE THE JOKER 2013, at the Akasaka ACT Theater. Her album V.D., released in February 2014, became her first to reach the top ten of the Oricon charts, debuting at number 10. Beyond singing, she has also worked as a lyricist and has taken on voice acting roles, including as Tsukuyomi in the Nintendo 3DS game Fire Emblem Fates and as Hattori Hanzō in the Ninja Girl & Samurai Master anime series. In 2016, she briefly paused solo activities to form the unit ViCTiM with minato before resuming her career as VALSHE.
